Lovely, well-formed dendritic Mottramite overlaying sharp rhombs of Dolomite and Smithsonite. A close-up of this specimen was in the MR’s Tsumeb Issue, P. 78! A very aesthetic, and clearly important, piece. Purchased in 1978 from famed Tsumeb dealers , Miriam and Julius Zweibel. 10 x 7 x 4.5 cm
A superb, lustrous, very 3-dimensional specimen of the classic flattened rhombohedral calcite "discs" from Tsumeb! Each crystal has intricate detailling and patterning along the faces, making it glow in person with lots of light reflections off those planes. Purchased from the Zweibels in 1976 6 x 4 x 3.5 cm
This specimen is small in size but large in stature. The white Calcite matrix is liberally coated sharp acicular balls of light green Brochantite along with smaller spherical acicular Conichalcite that ranges from light to olive green. As a bonus, there is a tiny and gemmy dioptase crystal tucked in a small vug in the base. Such a an excellent specimen, no matter how you size it. Purchased from the Zweibels in 1976 3.1 x 2.8 x 1.3 cm
Fine example of this unique pseudomorph from the sulfur mines at Agrigento, Sicily. Wha tis exceptional here is the sheer beauty of the piece, and elegance of the specimen overall - most of these are big clunkers or small crystals on big plates with little relief. this piece, though, is one of the finest for quality I have seen out there. It is old material, too...1800s. This specimen contains several well formed milky white casts, most of which are at least partially hollow, and are made up of many small sharp calcite crystals. Some minor sulfur is also present on the piece. Ex. George Vaux Jr. collection according to Hauck (but no label survives). Hauck collection label included. 8.5 x 7.3 x 5.2 cm
9.1 x 5.3 x 5.2 cm. A striking, old-time and unusual specimen from Pribram, Czech Republic from the Richard Hauck Collection. Lightly iridescent, burnished golden chalcopyrite microcrystals preferentially coat a three-sided column of lustrous, colorless to gray, nail-head calcite crystals. The crowning glory of this amazing piece is a large, 4.2 cm, complex calcite rhomb sheathed in iridescent chalcopyrite.
4.5 x 2.4 x 1.6 cm. From a small find that Rob Sielecki brought to the Denver show some years ago, this is a gorgeous leaf gold on calcite matrix. The brightness is amazing; it is literally like gold foil, super-reflective. This is what I call "crystallized leaf gold" because although the shape and thinness at first glance indicate a leafy gold without form, closer inspection shows flattened trigons and definite structure to the foil-thick leaf. It has amazing, tinfoil lustre and is incredibly beautiful.
This fascinating specimen formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pocket formed by a buried fossil clamshell. The interior of the shell is now completely covered with these fine, golden crystals. Not many fine collector specimens come from Florida, of course! 6.6 x 3.8 x 3.2 cm
A large and impressive Eastern European specimen of translucent calcite crystals with a later generation of cream-colored microcrystals on them, selectively deposited only on certain faces, providing a contrast between opaque creamy and translucent light pink faces. 12.2 x 9.9 x 6.6 cm
At the top of this tall matrix is a sort of "nest" of cobaltoan calcite crystals - the ones on the periphery are lighter in color due to contacts, but they serve as a contrast to a half-dozen INTENSELY pink, sizeable and GEMMY crystals. 5.2 x 4.9 x 3.0 cm
This is the only specimen of this bright orange-yellow, gemmy calcite from Daye that we have seen around! Look at the luster, sharpness and most of all, the unique intense color of these fine crystals! 4.7 x 3.2 x 2.0 cm
A BEAUTIFUL vug with two sprays of lustrous, royal-blue pentagonite needles and a neatly complimentary, very faintly yellow, 1.3 cm calcite rhomb. The entire vug is lined with tiny, sparkly, light gray stilbite blades. A very showy Indian specimen. 6.9 x 4.1 x 3.7 cm
An excellent and showy Tsumeb specimen of glassy, translucent and colorless calcite rhombs to 1.2 cm artfully set on nicely contrasting green, duftite-coated matrix. 5.8 x 3.9 x 2.7 cm
An excellent and showy cluster of gemmy emerald crystals with good color intensity and nicely accented by calcite from the famed Coscuez Mine of Colombia. The primary, crowning emerald crystals are pristine. You barely notice that two of the lesser crystals have broken terminations. Overall, wha tyou see is COLOR and lustre - a really pretty little guy that is a stunning emerald without breakin gth ebank, and not your usual boring thumbnail single, either 2.6 x 2.3 x 1.7 cm
A MAGNIFICENT, GEM-CLEAR, PRISTINE, golden-amber, twinned calcite crystal on a bit of matrix from Rudnyi, Kazakhstan. This beautiful piece is complete all-around and has the best amber color. A couple of the faces are preferentially frosted, adding character 5.7 x 4.7 x 4.0 cm
A very unusual old Charcas piece, a cluster of thick, lustrous, hexagonal tabular crystals of calcite, quite aesthetic really, and displayable from any number of angles, as it is complete all around. 9.7 x 7.0 x 5.7 cm
