Irai was known for these superb, gorgeous calcites, and then the supply seemed to dry up. There were hardly any available at the last year''s Tucson show, and they were overpriced, so we bought none. Then, to our surprise, we found a cache of new specimens with one dealer at the small Spring Denver Show last year, and cherry-picked all the best ones, and sold them. Then they disappeared again - until finally, a contact brought us the only specimens we saw at this year''s Tucson Show, and we bought the entire lot - the good, the bad and the ugly - in order to get the good ones - like this one! 8.5 x 4.5 x 3 cm
This is a LARGE, COMPLETE and FINE example from this fascinating discovery in Florida. Gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pockets formed by buried fossil clamshells. The interior of this large shell is now lined with these fine, golden crystals. Windows in each side allow a perfect view of the gemmy crystals from either side! This one also features a sparing amount of gray conglomerate matrix which sets off the shell nicely. A top-notch specimen from this find! 11.8 x 8.9 x 6.1 cm
The photo just do not do this large, spectacular specimen justice. The pic of the specimen in the hand gives you a better indication of the delicate, translucent beauty of these calcite crystals than the others. They measure up to 4 cm across, and are literally piled up to make a beautifully 3-dimensional "sculpture" of these gorgeous crystals. As I said, MUCH better in person! 14 x 11 x 10 cm
A showy, old-time specimen of a highly lustrous, copper in calcite scalenohedron on matrix with silver, epidote and prehnite. A portion of the calcite crystal termination is cleaved and contacted, but this remains a highly representative Copper Country classic combo piece. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 6.2 x 4.3 x 3.0 cm
A FINE gold thumbnail of lustrous gold leaves interspersed with calcite and accented with tiny arsenic crystals from the one-time find in 2000. 1.9 x 1.1 x 1.1 cm
A BIG crystal of golden calcite from China! This specimen has been dipped in acid to smooth out anomalies, unfortunately, but only you will know that; it is surely impressive! 14.7 x 11.1 x 8.9 cm
Two bright, gemmy crystals, intergrown to create a gorgeous example of Indiana calcite. Fine form, faces and luster ( a prettier, deeper gold in person - the pics look a bit washed-out). 4.9 x 3.5 x 2.9 cm
This is a LARGE and SIGNIFICANT specimen of calcite for China or ANYWHERE! As you can see, it is a real showpiece! The glowing, creamy-yellow crystals measure up to 8.5 cm across (!), and they are beautifully isolated on the matrix. There are a few very minor contacts that do not detract, especially on a specimen of this magnitude. 35.5 x 35.0 x 11.5 cm
A large specimen of lustrous, sharp sphalerites with several dozen transparent, light purple fluorites and a sprinkling of light cream-colored calcites. This is an old-timer! It is not pristine, as there is some edge-wear on some of the fluorites, but it is not by any measure "banged-up" looking - the damage is VERY minor in the context of its size. 19.2 x 17.0 x 13.5 cm
I do not recall having ever seen this material before: a huge plate of sparkling, sea-foam green calcite from China! This beauty measures over a foot from end to end - WOW! Crystallized green (cuprian, usually) calcite is quite rare. a significant large piece like this, never seen ....
This fascinating specimen formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pocket formed by a buried fossil clamshell. The interior of the shell is now completely covered with these fine, golden crystals. A REALLY pretty one, with the remaining part of the shell cupping some tryly gorgeous crystals. 4.6 x 4.3 x 3.5 cm
Big translucent-to-transparent octahedrons of fluorite (to 3 cm across) decorated with pretty dove-gray, poker-chip calcites. 11.3 x 6.2 x 4.7 cm
A sensational Dalnegorsk calcite thumber! There are two crossed crystals here, both transparent, with beautiful bevelled terminations. They look sort of washed-out in the pics, but in person, they are quite gemmy and beautiful! 3.5 x 2.9 x 1.6 cm
A rare twinned calcite from Dalnegorsk, a VERY desirable calcite thumbnail specimen! Too bad we do not have a shot from the top edge to show how beautifully symmetrical it is on either side of the twinning plane. 2.9 x 2.5 x 1.3 cm
Calcites to 1.5 cm richly included with copper, which you can see clearly through the translucent crystals. This is a Michigan classic that is hard to get your hands on! MINOR bruising. 8.5 x 7.0 x 5.0 cm
