Is this not a SPECTACULAR stalactite? It is almost entirely composed of sharp, translucent crystals of calcite, like a Christmas tree – with just a thin core of massive stalactite running up the middle (which you can see at the point of detachment on the bottom). Despite the softness of this mineral, this specimen is in PRISTINE condition. You can imagine what it must have looked like if this stalactite had neighbors within the room or vug in which it formed – a sight I would have loved to see! 9 x 5 x 4.5 cm
Dioptase is almost impossible to photograph in a way that captures the true deep green “Tsumeb” color, but suffice it to say that the dioptase here is the TOP intense green – in fact, GEMMY crystals - with GLASSY luster. The crystals are not large (they measure to just over half a centimeter), but what makes this piece so pretty is how the dioptase crystals sit on a cluster of euhedral (rhombohedral) calcite crystals, which sets them off beautifully. A few very trivial dings do not detract from the overall beauty of this specimen, and especially as it is priced very well (in my opinion), even though I think its worth more 6.5 x 5.5 x 3.5 cm
A large, remarkable specimen of big (to 7 cm), translucent, dome-shaped calcites, with striated faces, isolated on a thin plate of matrix. I have personally not seen this material before. it is certainly not available in quantity and is very distinctive. In great condition, with only one tiny bruise on one crystal. 17.5 x 10 x 4 cm
The calcite here is eerily reminiscent of an Elmwood twin – but no, it really is from China (and far more rare)! You can be sure of it when you see the dark country-rock matrix covered with transparent-to-translucent calcites of a completely different habit, setting off the golden calcite in a gorgeous way! The big calcite measures 12.5 cm! 15 x 12 x 7.5 cm
An EXCELLENT and SHOWY plate of gem-like, transparent calcite rhombs on very sparkly, off-white dolomite from Tsumeb. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON, as the very high lustre and clarity made photography difficult. 6.5 x 6.5 x 1.6 cm
This fascinating specimen formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pocket formed by a buried fossil clamshell. The interior of the shell is now completely covered with these fine, golden crystals. Not many fine collector specimens come from Florida, of course! This one has some nice matrix attached, too - really aesthetic! 4.8 x 4.7 x 3.7cm
There were only a few specimens from this amazing find that appeared at Tucson - no clue whether that was all there will ever be or not. What you have is a BIG cluster of sharp rhombs of calcite, with this gorgeous sparkly pyrite of two tones, gold and copper, decorating the crystal faces. On the back, you can see the complex honeycombing caused by quartz forming casts over euhedral crystals of calcite, in some places with the calcite still inside, and hollow in others (but keeping the shape of the now-etched-away calcite crystals). VERY unusual specimens, I have not seen their like before from anywhere! 13.5 x 13.5 x 8.4cm
This is a very uncommon German pseudormorph specimen of dolomite that has replaced the outer layer of a cluster of calcite crystals, retaining their scalenohedral form. 5.9 x 5.4 x 3.8cm
A bizarre and striking calcite specimen! These rhombohedral crystals, to 3 cm, grew to a certain size - then were coated with hematite - then later, began growing again, but selectively on the faces, so that on some areas there is a glassy, thin sheet over the hematite phantom inside, and on others, the hematite-coated inner crystal is exposed. These are the sorts of specimens I love to have around just to look at and to show others how fascinating crystals can be! 10.3 x 7.7 x 4.7cm
What a wonderful Dalnegorsk combo specimen! These lustrous compound crystals of sphalerite measure up to 2.2 cm, and they are accented by a GEMMY, silky calcite crystal with "cut-glass" modifications, and thin, layered crystals of milky feldspar. Very unusual and pretty! 9.7 x 7.4 x 6.5cm
Irai was known for these superb, gorgeous calcites, and then the supply seemed to dry up. There were hardly any available at the last year''s Tucson show, and they were overpriced, so we bought none. Then, to our surprise, we found a cache of new specimens with one dealer at the small Spring Denver Show last year, and cherry-picked all the best ones, and sold them. Then they disappeared again - until finally, a contact brought us the only specimens we saw at this year''s Tucson Show, and we bought the entire lot - the good, the bad and the ugly - in order to get the good ones - like this really unique one, with two LARGE, FLAT intergrown crystals on matrix. It looks REALLY different from the "standard" Irai calcites of the past! 12.5 x 11.3 x 4.1cm
This is a large plate of pretty pink crystals of cobaltoan calcite, from recent finds in Morocco. It is unusual to see large ones such as this! 12.7 x 12.7 x 6.2cm s!
When these new Carrollite specimens were first found about 4 years ago, they were instantly regarded as the best of species ever found. Some of the largest, sharpest, most impressive crystals of this rare Copper, Cobalt, Nickel sulfide came out of this find. This particular specimen features an excellent, sharp, well formed, lustrous, silvery color cuboctahedron measuring 2.0 cm on Calcite matrix. It''s a good display specimen, despite having a contact along the front of the crystal and a small ding on the side. 7.5 x 6.5 x 3.8cm
This is a very attractive display piece with several prismatic Quartz crystals completely covered by beige Calcite rhombs sitting atop dark reddish brown Sphalerite with lustrous Pyrite crystals at base. This is a beautiful combination specimen with an attractive color contrast. 7.0 x 6.8 x 6.0cm
A very beautiful, gemmy colorless scalenohedral crystal of Calcite not unlike good quality English Calcites. This is a rather unusual specimen for this locality, and is truly the first I''ve seen. The label confirms its origin and in my mind, this Alpine specimen is truly one of the most unique I''ve seen from Italy. A great piece for any Calcite collector. 4.5 x 3.8 x 2.3cm
