Vanadinite, Calcite from San Carlos Mine (Apex mine), San Carlos, Mun. de Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico [db_pics/mdpics/MD-52813a.jpg]

Looking more like a pyromorphite specimen, this vanadinite not only has hopper growth, but, multiple terminations. It is highly lustrous with a brownish-green hue and is wreathed at the bottom by colorless calcite crystals. Truly special and aesthetic! 3 x 1.6 x 1.1 cm

2.0 x 2.0 x 1.9 cm. An unusual and unique thumbnail from the North Geronimo Mine of Arizona. Sparkly vanadinite microcrystals are richly dusted on two, sharp, gray calcite after fluorite crystals. This is an excellent and showy Arizona pseudomorph and combination specimen from a mine close to the famous and now-closed Red Cloud Mine. Ex. Sam Nasser TN Collection.

This is not the most expensive vanadinite specimen in the lot, but it is my personal favorite. Indivdual, barrel shaped crystals of lustrous, translucent, orange, crystals of vanadinite have been emplaced in a matrix of colorless, gemmy, calcite. WOW! 2.6 x 2.1 x 1.7 cm

A 7 x 7 x 5 mm MATRIX greenockite from a remarkable , small find that has produced what many consider to be the bets of the species for this rarity. I had never seen such a good matrix piece for sale! This crystal is gemmy and bright, and perched nicely on matrix with calcite, prehnite, and other minerals. It is spectacular for the species. Ex. Gerald Herfurth Collection (and he paid about the same a decade ago so this is being recycled without accounting for appreciation). Is it expensive? surely. but it is a thing of such rarity that it is impossible to replace at any price. 8.9 x 6 x 4 cm

This is a rare treasure indeed, one of just a few specimens found in a freak pocket about a decade ago. It is from the personal collection of a Russian mineral dealer, that was privately sold at the show (name on purchase). The piece is PERFECT. It is undamaged, and complete all around. It consists of a doubly-terminated golden barite crystal, with gem terminations, perched on quartz matrix. It just about sits on its own, even. A 3-cm crystal of disc-shaped calcite sits adjacent to the upper barite termination, for accent. The barite itself measures 8 x 2.5 x 2 cm or so. In my years, i had ONLY SEEN ONE OTHER from this pocket before, ever! And this one blows it away....I am told it is one of the two best known. This is a rare gem crystal, a rare Russian piece, and just a superb aesthetic specime nby any standard. It is from the private collection of a dealer who was involved in early specimens coming out of Dalnegorsk. 10.4 x 8.2 x 4.9 cm

Measure this out on a ruler! This is one BIG dioptase specimen! If it were from TSUMEB, you'd be looking at a piece 3-4x more expensive. For some reason, even when they are as good as tsumeb material such as this piece is, Russian diop's do not get the monetary respect they deserve and so a big cabinet piece from Russia is a relative bargain compared to its peers from Africa. Ironic, as this is the type , original , locality for the species! What makes this piece special is both the rich coverage and the 3-dimensional topography that means it is not just a flat plate. The calcite, as an accent, is most unusual and really makes the piece even more special. The display face is simply incredibly stunning in person, with green flashes coming at you every which way. As with all photographed dioptase, it is MORE IMPRESSIVE IN PERSON. 16.8 x 9 x 4.5 cm

COMPLETE AND PRISTINE ALL AROUND, this is an amazing water-growth calcite from a new find in China! It is the only good one of its style that I saw, and I bought it immediately for the incredible aesthetics. 10 x 9.4 x 7.2 cm

A remarkable specimen, I thought when I got it as a larger piece about twice the size. I have long owned this in my personal Calcite Collection, but I have let it out recently to make room. The perfect, complete crystal is 8 x 7 x 6 cm in size and sharply twinned. This is one of the best matrix twins I was ever able to buy, in over 15 years of looking for a good one. It is now trimmed to a well-balanced matrix with the PERFECT twin sittin gnicely in the midst. The twin is GEMMY. It is lustrous and transparent - not just translucent and milky as many are. It is PERFECT and complete all around, 360 degrees! Few crystals of such size and perfection are found! 15.6 x 14.2 x 8.7 cm

WOW. This is one of the top specimens, for size and completeness, from this now famous find of perhaps 5 years ago. It is COMPLETE ALL AROUND, 3-dimensional, PERFECTLY SYMMETRIC, and just awe-inspiring when you think this is a HEART TWIN that weighs 10 pounds or so! Certainly bigger than English locales ever made 'em! The piece is unique, so far as i know, for this pocket because it has a hematite or limonite-included phantom within (best viewed from one side for sharpness). I have not seen others with such a phantom. 25.1 x 18 x 9.8 cm

Galena is certainly common enough, but a large specimen combining the quality and aesthetics you see here...that is most uncommon! This piece features a pristine, 3-dimensional, SUPERB galena crystal sitting perfectly atop matrix, showing from ALL angles 360-degrees around, and perched amongst a nest of complementing calcites. Without the calcite accent, it would be a little more boring and typical. With the calcites and the placement of the crystal together, it is one of the finest for its size I have ever seen, amongst thousands of such pieces over 20 years. The galena measures 5.5 x 5 x 5 cm in size and is perfect! IT IS MUCH MORE LUSTROUS IN PERSON, TOO! 18.5 x 14.8 x 8.6 cm

A gorgeous radial cluster of traditional Tsumeby-style rhombohedra, that are almost curved with extra faces, and attractively dusted by included specks of red hematite grains. Good lustre, excellent transparency into the crystals, and overall just VERY PRETTY! and, unique to Tsumeb 7.5 x 6.3 x 4.3 cm

A really beautiful calcite because of the clarity of the water-clear calcite on top of the green mottramite-coated matrix. It is stunning! The smaller calcite, in front, is 3 cm across. It has minor edge wear on the bottom but this does not detract at all , visually. The upper crystal shooting up from teh top of the piece is to 3 cm on edge, or 4.5 cm across longways. It is complete on the front and all around the sides, contacted slightly on the backside only. This piece is in incredible display piece and shows off dramatically - MUCH better in person. 6.9 x 6.2 x 3.8 cm

A really dramatic large piece of classic Tsumeb stacked rhombohedra! They ar elightly speckled with a black mineral I forget the name of, but it occurs often with this habit. The complex, stacked visual effect of the crystals is classic for Tsumeb! 10.1 x 7 x 5 cm
