Stunning set of what appear to be intergrown clusters of scalenohedron Calcites interspersed on matrix. The Calcites, which are up to 1.4 cm!, have superb luster and translucence, and the overall quality and aesthetics of this is exceptional. A killer. 3.6 x 3 x 1.6 cm
This is really quite remarkable. The good luster and attractive pearly translucence would add to the quality of any calcite, but the form of this crystal is what really makes it special. This specimen is really a stack of poker chips that are all miniatures of the sceptered termination. As I said, quite remarkable – and better in person! From the 19th-century collection of Colonel Joseph Neeld. 3.3 x 2.2 x 1.6 cm
Gemmy 1 mm Dioptases spread liberally on a matrix of sharp .6 cm white Calcite Rhombs. Classic Tsumeb all the way, and getting harder to find! 3.6 x 2 x 1.2 cm
Intergrown Copper and Calcite that this region is so noted for. The presentation side had good clarity and superb striations in the Calcite, but the back is unusual for its Copper intergrown with sharp scalenohedron Calcite faces. Nice thumb, and actually better in person yet. 1.8 x 1.5 x 1.2 cm
On a large plate of flashy chalcopyrite has grown a thick cluster of glittering calcite of TWO subtly different forms of sparkling-white, stick-like parallel crystals intermixed with each other. Drusy quartz adds more sparkle to the matrix , covering much of the chalcopyrite and accenting the base of the calcite cluster as well. They apparently formed at the same time, in various places each type has formed on top of the other. A large, dramatic Eastern European specimen that is MUCH MUCH BETTER IN PERSON! 26 x 15 x 6.8 cm
One of several nice Eastern Euro specimens in this auction - this one truly elegant. On a bending matrix of sparkly quartz are these super-sharp twins, the largest measuring 3.5 cm and sticking out in bold relief from the matrix. Behind it is a druse of calcite of the same color, with a cluster of smaller twins of exactly the same form and color. A really eye-catching piece! 7.6 x 6.5 x 4.7cm
A VERY LARGE, very showy and beautiful Bulgarian combo specimen - still with its $550 label from the previous dealer. It has creamy starbursts of calcite, isolated on a sparkly quartz matrix, with a cluster of SUPERB, mirror-metalllic galenas, stacked architecturally, to 1 cm across the edge. Note that this piece could be trimmed if you wish into a spectacular small cab specimen - with the calcite starburst, quartz and galenas grouped perfectly in one area. It is best displayed the bottom-up as shown for a collector, though to photograph it , its better shot this way because of shadowing and the 3-dimensioanl form of it 20.2 x 14.2 x 6.8cm
A remarkably pretty amethyst, in that the very sparkly amethyst crystals have grown over and on an underlying EUHEDRAL crystal of calcite, giving it an unusual sculptural structure rather than the typical flat plate of prismatic xls you see from here. 6 x 5 x 3.4cm
The rolling matrix is covered with gemmy, light pink crystals of the prized cobaltian (pink) variety of calcite from Bou Azzer. 6.8 x 5.5 x 4.3cm
A SPECTACULAR, pristine, Indian CABINET specimen of translucent, botyroidal, yellow fluorite on a 7.4 cm, lustrous, calcite crystal. The calcite crystal is translucent and frosted, colorless, and contrasts nicely. It rests in a cradle and on an undulatory bed of quartz crystals on a bit of basalt matrix. This is a VERY RARE combination from the find a few years ago at the Mahodari Quarrry near Nasik. 11.8 x 9.0 x 5.2 cm
A CLASSIC, OLD-TIME specimen of malachite on and included in lustrous calcite crystals from the famous Copper Queen Mine at Bisbee. The major crystals are pristine and the back of the piece even has clear, uncontaminated calcite rhombs. A VERY CHOICE old-timer! Rare in such quality, with so much malachite inclusions. IN fact, this is the most included of only a handful i have ever seen. 4.9 x 3.9 x 3.5 cm
This fascinating specimen formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pocket formed by a buried fossil clamshell. The interior of the shell now contains these fine, golden crystals. Not many fine collector specimens come from Florida, of course! 6.7 x 5.7 x 3.1cm
A UNIQUE, old-time CABINET combination piece from the famous Prospect Park Quarry in New Jersey. This pocket specimen is dominated by an undamaged, 7.5 cm, lustrous, translucent, gray calcite crystal and is surrounded by tiny laumontite needles, brown stilbite blades, and botryoidal, green prehnite. Really complex and interesting old piece! The whole specimen rests on anhydrite casts after laumontite. Ex Rutgers University. 11.7 x 7.5 x 6.0 cm
These fascinating specimens formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pockets formed by buried fossil clamshells. The interior of the shells now contain fine, gemmy, golden crystals. Not many fine collector specimens come from Florida, of course! Here is most of a shell, with fine tooth-like crystals sticking up on one side. 7.5 x 6 x 3.5 cm
A BEAUTIFUL and AESTHETIC, old-time, Copper Country specimen of a lustrous, striated and translucent, 4.3 cm, colorless, twinned calcite scalenohedron. it is very nicely set on copper with matrix, and has included copper inside. Several faces of the calcite crystal are preferentially peppered with tiny copper crystals, which really adds character. The yellowed, antique label tells you that this is a 100 year old plus specimen. 5.0 x 4.0 x 3.5 cm
