A pristine, complete all-around, translucent, lustrous, hematite-tinted, calcite scalenohedron from the famous White Pine Mine of Michigans Copper Country. This was probably collected in the 1970s or 1980s, before the mine closed. Ex Lance T. Hampel Collection. 4.3 x 2.2 x 2.0 cm
Look at this glowing crystal of calcite perched perfectly on a plate of marcasite! In person, the calcite is far prettier - it just lights up with flashes from the interio - this glowing look was not captured by the camera. The calcite measures 4 cm across. OLD, CLOSED locality! 7.6 x 6.6 x 4.5cm
Good pink cobaltoan calcites with big crystals have always been hard to get, but a batch came out recently and we have been grabbing every decently-priced one that has turned up on the market. This sizeable plate features FAT, translucent to transparent crystals with beautiful pyramidal terminations. The crystals have wonderful translucence and a fine silky luster! 8.7 x 5.8 x 4.3cm
This fascinating specimen formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pocket formed by a buried fossil clamshell. The interior of the shell is now completely covered with these fine, golden crystals. Not many fine collector specimens come from Florida, of course! 5.8 x 4.6 x 4.1cm
These beautiful Leiping calcites are not coming out anymore! This very large plate is from a Chinese contacts who had it stashed away. These crystals are distinctive for many reasons. First, they have a beautiful glassy luster. They also have very pretty, perfectly symmetrical terminations. But most importantly, they have very distinctive phantoms inside. The first generation growth was coated with an unidentified mineral that makes the crystals red under UV light. You can clearly see where growth began again, enveloping the earlier crystal in a later generation of gemmy calcite. 26.6 x 15.7 x 7.8cm
This is a specimen from a NEW FIND of gleaming, light sea-foam green calcite crystals. They have a unique surface, caused by a minutely staggered growth along the faces that give them an amazing sheen when you rotate them to the right angle in the light. Looked at closely, they look like stacks of a thousand thin layers. 4.7 x 3.5 x 2.6cm
An AESTHETIC specimen of lustrous, translucent, colorless calcite scalenohedrons on matrix from Irai, Brazil. The large crystal is 7.7 cm and all of the calcite crystals are pristine. Exceptional example from this contemporary calcite locality! 8.0 x 5.6 x 4.0 cm
It is really sad that these magnificent calcite crystals from Rodeo do not seem to be coming out anymore. They have a really unique and pretty appearance - a silky luster, and these really cool bevels all around the sides. They are glass-clear, as you can see through several side faces that are glassy rather than silky. This scalenohedral crystal has a great termination. A large and superb example from the find! 9.4 x 3.3 x 3.3cm
Good cobaltian calcites with big, gemmy crystals are quite hard to obtain. But, recently a batch came out of Morocco and was dispersed, and we have bought as many affordable ones from various sources as we could get our hands on - one here, one there - we have been unable to find an entire lot of them. At any rate, here is a REALLY good one, with fat, lustrous, gemmy pyramidal crystals. 9.2 x 5.1 x 4.7cm
A DRAMATIC CABINET specimen of a lustrous, 9.0 cm, doubly terminated, variegated apatite crystal very nicely set in contrasting orange calcite matrix from the famous Yates Mine at Otter Lake, Quebec. The lower apatite termination is partially contacted, but does not detract at all from this fine, showy piece. 12.6 x 9.8 x 9.5 cm
This is a stunning Tsumeb calcite specimen with a couple of MINOR dings on an edge of one of the crystals. Still, just look at this piece! It’s unbelievably aesthetic, with razor-sharp, transparent-to-translucent rhombs (to 3.5 cm) accented with a touch of duftite and matrix at the center. If you can live with the dings, you get a truly exquisite Tsumeb specimen.
This is, to my knowledge, the largest and most significant specimen from a small find at the Shangbao that is now finished. Very few specimens ever came from this pocket. We had the bulk of them at Tucson and our source brought this one to Denver to finish the lot off with us. Calcites of this form had been seen before, but NOT on fluorite. Even the small specimens from this find were expensive from the Chinese, who valued them highly for this beautiful and previously unseen combination. This specimen features an IMMENSE calcite crystal – 14 cm in length and 10 cm across – along with other large crystals, with teal-blue fluorite. In one place, two fine crystals grow out from a central point in a “V” shape. 28 x 15 x 14 cm
A nice classic English calcite specimenfor any collection! Four gemmy crystals rising from a sparing matrix, with a pretty “faceted” appearance to teh scalenohedral terminations. 5.5 x 3.5 x 3.5 cm
It has always been hard to find good specimens of pink cobaltian calcite with decent-sized crystals of any quality. But recently, a batch came out of Morocco and was dispersed quickly amongst dealers, and we have scooped up as many as we could find at decent prices. This specimen features fine, deep pink crystals; there are the usual dings around the periphery where the specimen was removed from the pocket, but the specimen overall is in fine shape. 5.1 x 5.0 x 3.3cm
Irai was known for these superb, gorgeous calcites, and then the supply seemed to dry up. There were hardly any available at the Tucson show, and they were overpriced, so we bought none. Then, to our surprise, we found this wonderful cache of new specimens with one dealer at the small Spring Denver Show, and cherry-picked all the best ones. Unlike in the past, the calcites in this batch showed all sorts of different forms - all of them beautiful. This one is absolutely unique as far as I know - I surely did not see any others like it. It is a single HUGE, columnar crystal with stepped growth - SO unlike the original small spiky Irai calcites which came to be thought of as characteristic of the mine. 11.9 x 5.7 x 5.3cm
