A HUGE scalenohedral crystal of calcite, with pretty, tiered sub-terminations up the sides, translucent golden color with dozens of epitaxial faces on several of the major faces. Unfortunately DOES have a ding at the tip, but in good shape overall for such a large specimen. Extra shipping may apply due to size and weight. 19.6 x 13.2 x 12.2cm
A gorgeous, flowery cluster of sharp calcite scalenohedral crystals, a classic old Mapimi specimen from an old collection. 5.7 x 4.5 x 3.2cm
Now here is an unusual combination of minerals that look really beautiful together! These are acicular crystals of primary malachite, which have grown on a bed of lustrous, deep salmon-pink cobaltoan calcite (not a druse, but real crystals!). A special piece! Old material, too, from finds of a decade or so ago. 6.0 x 5.0 x 4.0cm
The Onganja is known for fine crystallized coppers, but not so much for nice copper/calcite combos (as Michigan is). But here you have a really unique piece, with nice branches of crystallized copper and a gemmy calcite crystal that has copper penetrating inside it! Very unusual! 6 x 4.8 x 3.4 cm
This fascinating specimen was formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pockets formed by buried fossil clamshells. The interior of the shell now contains fine, gemmy, golden crystals. Not many fine collector specimens come from Florida, of course! Few of these specimens are on matrix, and the matrix (as on this specimen) does add an attractive element. 9 x 7.5 x 6 cm
An intricate, complex, twinned calcite crystal that is nearly a complete floater, with just a small attachment in the bottom -rear. The symmetry and patterning, in person, is really mesmerizing and this is unlike anything I have yet seen from Dalnegorsk! MUCH BETTER IN PERSON. I know it LOOKS curvy and cockeyed atop, but that is a visual illusion of the twinning - in person you can see it is pristine and sharply terminated all around, with a bit of included matrix near the base casting shadows from within. 9.7 x 9.7 x 5 cm
A very cute combination specimen, featuring an unusually formed, lustrous calcite perched on gossan matrix tha tis duted with bright yellow mimetite! Old material fro mthis classic locale! 6.6 x 3.7 x 2.2 cm
This one is hard to convey in pics. It is actally a very displayable calcite specimen, no problem. However, it is ALSO a very neat pseudomorph piece! The large discshaped calcites sit ON a cluster of large scalenoedhral crystals that turn out to be FLUORITE that had encased an original calcite crystal, filling in the space and crystallizing on the inside of the growing internal cavity as the calcite dissolved away over time. It reallly is much better in person and in fact, could be photo'd the other way with the sharp calcite-formed pseudo on top, as well. To me, though, its primarily a calcite with the replacement as an interesting "surprise" bonus. 10.9 x 9.5 x 7.5 cm
An aesthetic and beautiful specimen of highly lustrous, transparent, amber calcite rhombs to 2.3 cm on matrix with lustrous, metallic needles of stibnite to 1.6 cm. The calcite crystals have overgrown some of the stibnite needles. These combination pieces came out of a couple of Chinese mines a few years ago and no more have come since then. Highly desirable. 9.7 x 6.4 x 4.6 cm
An old Illinois calcite specimen that was in the collection of the Seaman Museum, and sold at auction in 2002. Look at the bizarre sheaf-like form of the crystals (actually, just ripples on the faces). Other than some tiny bruises, damage is limited to the periphery, where the specimen was removed from the pocket. 10.9 x 7.2 x 5.7cm
A BIG, BEAUTIFUL plate of calcite from Tsumeb, given its attractivness by a coating of light moss-green mottramite that has been selectively deposited on the calcite crystal faces - so that the green color contrasts with the lustrous, uncoated faces. . Super large display sized specimen from the Rob Smith collection (Rob is a well known dealer in SA) ! 14.9 x 11.6 x 3.3cm
Recently a batch of cobaltoan calcites with large, distinct crystals came out of Bou Azzer, and we have been buying them up wherever they have appeared - they certainly are a far cry from the boring druses you commonly see from other localities. The scalenohedral crystals here measure up to 1 cm in height. 6.3 x 5.4 x 4.8cm
A superb, isolated crystal of the rare calcium-manganese silicate poldervaartite, from the Kalahari Manganese Fields in South Africa. What makes this specimen really distinctive is the quite rare appearance of a glassy, window-clear crystal of calcite that has grown right up against the poldervaartite. Can be trimmed to a killer thumbnail! The poldervaartite crystal measures 1.8 cm. 5.2 x 2.3 x 2.1cm
A GEM of a calcite crystal, actually throwing off prismatic colors - water-clear and with faces as smooth and sharp as glass! The crystal is very nearly a floater, with some shards of aragonite embedded in the back side. At their best, these clear Dalnegorsk calcites are as good as any around, much as the clear fluorites from the same locality are. This shining crystal really jumps out and grabs you! 5.6 x 4.4 x 3.8cm
Irai was known for these superb, gorgeous calcites, and then the supply seemed to dry up. There were hardly any available at the Tucson show, and they were overpriced, so we bought none. Then, to our surprise, we found this wonderful cache of new specimens with one dealer at the small Spring Denver Show, and cherry-picked all the best ones. Unlike in the past, the calcites in this batch showed all sorts of different forms - all of them beautiful. 10.2 x 7.2 x 5.2cm
