An amazing tower of "poker chip" calcites stacked up to look like some sort of Asian architecture! Apparently, the crystals just grew piled atop one another in the pocket. Amazing! A BIG, showy and impressive specimen! The tower is complete all the way around. 10.4 x 10.1 x 9.4 cm
Large, pink crystals of cobaltoan calcite to 0.6 cm! 5.8 x 5.4 x 4.8 cm
This large, striking showpiece features a large, super-fine, GEM-LIKE fluorite, 3.5 cm across, nestled in a matrix of pretty green muscovite balls deocrated with stacks of poker-chip calcites. This major specimen measures 8 inches in one direction and over 6 in the other; the stark isolation of the single fine fluorite crystal makes it really breathtaking. 18.6 x 16.3 x 15.5 cm
A classic, showy, two-sided specimen of pastel sea-green and off-white, modified calcite scalenohedrons in an arborescent habit from Laurium, Greece. Excellent material from this ancient locality. 9.7 x 7.3 x 6.5 cm
Superb, golden, gemmy crystals to 2.5 cm in length. Very nicely trimmed specimen. These once were common enough, though even then not in such quality. Now, really, they are hard to get. This is a display-quality specimen with brilliant colors and lustre to the barites, with the sharpest terminations. 6 x 5 x 4.2 cm
A HUGE, fine twin crystal with a wingspan of 7.5 cm! Interestingly, you can see crystals of the other habit familiar from Durango on this same specimen. Though there is damage to the crystals around the twin, the focus is on the twin, and as far as these go, this is a super one - large, transparent, and with the beautiful bevels and silky luster that make these Rodeo calcites so impressive. Also, it is remarkable the way this one stands up in front of a bend in the matrix, creating a natural "display stand" for it! 15.3 x 10.1 x 8.9cm
Inside this gemmy, striated crystal of calcite you can see an earlier scalenohedral calcite crystal that was engulfed as the crystal grew later with a completely different form! In person, the crystal really glows -- it looks much more dull in the pic for some reason but in reality has the glimmer these Schullsburg calcites are known for. 3.3 x 2.9 x 1.7cm
There is a large twinned crystal from Rodeo on this auction as well. This is a gorgeous example of the scalenohedral crystals from there, with the bevels and silky luster that make them look like no other calcites from anywhere else. This specimen is particularly elegant, the way two perfect crystals rise next to one another. 4.5 x 2.0 x 1.3cm
Check out the amazing form of this specimen of calcite with sparkling marcasite from Shullsburg! The larger and smaller rhombs of silky calcite are perched on either side of the stalactitic marcasite, and in fact the whole assemblage appears to be a floater. There is a contact on the back side of the larger calcite that does not show from the display face. A really remarkable and elegant old Wisconsin piece, more striking in person. 3.9 x 3.9 2.7cm
This fascinating specimen formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pocket formed by a buried fossil clamshell. This specimen has most of the shell intact, as well as somem of the conglomerate matrix in which these shells are found. These are some of the few collector-quality specimens to have ever come out of the state of Florida! 6.4 x 5.5 x 4.5cm
A bizarre and pretty toenail specimen of gemmy, euhedral calcite crystals stacked atop one another. Mined at the Bor pit in 2004. 3.0 x 2.0 x 1.7cm
A fine Illinois fluorite with a glowing yellow center and a GLASSY light purple exterior, accented with a nice creamy calcite crystal. Back side is a cleavage/contact face 4.7 x 4.6 x 2.8cm
Irai was known for these superb, gorgeous calcites, and then the supply seemed to dry up. There were hardly any available at the last Tucson show, and they were overpriced, so we bought none. Then, to our surprise, we found this wonderful cache of new specimens with one dealer at the small Spring Denver Show earlier this year, and cherry-picked all the best ones by getting in early. Unlike in the past, the calcites in this batch showed all sorts of different forms - all of them beautiful. 6.8 x 4.8 x 3.1cm
A specimen from the exciting find of last year featuring translucent green octahedrons of fluorite on an earlier generation of contrasting purple-gray fluorite. This one has accenting dove-gray poker-chip calcites on it as well. Fluorite crystals to 2.5 cm. No more of these coming out! 7.0 x 5.6 x 4.4cm
Just look at the length and articulation of these crystals! A recent small batch of these cobaltoan calcites with relatively large and quite gemmy crystals has come out of Bou Azzer, and I have grabbed all I could. They are truly exceptional for what they are! The crystals that peak the matrix here measure up to above one centimeter in length, with fine pyramidal terminations. 4.1 x 3.2 x 2.3cm
