The borate deposits of California have produced some really beautiful/oddball mineral specimens. Few are as unusual as ulexite, also called "TV rock" for its fiber-optic-like optical properties. This particular matrix specimen is TERMINATED, something you almost NEVER see in the mineral; and it has superior prismatic luster and a pearlescent, white color. In association are some really neat golden, translucent calcite crystals to 1.0 cm in length. SUPERB FOR THE SPECIES AND VERY RARE as a specimen, instead of simply as cleavage masses! This specimen is 3-dimensional and complete all around 7 x 5 x 4.8 cm

This particular matrix specimen is TERMINATED, something you almost NEVER see in the mineral; and it has superior prismatic luster and a pearlescent, white color. The longest crystal is 6 cm high. In association are some really neat golden, translucent calcite crystals to 1.0 cm in length. SUPERB FOR THE SPECIES AND VERY RARE as a specimen, instead of simply as cleavage masses! This specimen is 3-dimensional and complete all around 6.9 x 5 x 3.1 cm
Frosted, light green, crystals of calcite, to 2.0 cm, have grown, inexplicably, in a small vug in petrified wood. Considering the huge influx of silica into the wood, I think that this is an unusual environment for calcite. The green color is caused by vanadium. These are almost impossible to obtain and this is an old specimen, plus one of the best I have seen of its type. 5.5 x 4.8 x1.9 cm
This specimen of unusual, frosted, light green, calcite on petrified wood displays beautifully, as the crystals stand up from the matrix. The largest crystal exceeds 1.5 cm across. The green color is caused by vanadium. These are almost impossible to obtain and this is an old specimen, plus one of the best I have seen of its type. 4.7 x 3.6 x 2.1 cm
A flattened cube of nearly transparent, rich blue fluorite, measuring 5 cm across, forms the matrix for several, cream colored, lustrous, calcite crystals, the largest of which measures 3 cm in length. There are a few cleaves mainly at lower-facing corners, but obviously the color simply over-runs any minor defect , as its so incredible visually. It is one of the most gorgeous fluorites I have seen, perfect or not. This came from one special pocket of neon blue fluorite found maybe a decade ago, and there were very few available. I have seen no other combination specimens from the find and none at all in several years, on the market. 6.9 x 5 x 4.1 cm
It is very hard to find cobaltoan calcites with large, distinct, gemmy crystals, but this is one! This superb specimen features crystals to 0.7 cm, with superb luster, transparency, fine pink colo and sharp pyramidal terminations! When these very good ones do come out, they often show a lot of damage, but this one is in terrific shape. 8.1 x 4.7 x 3 cm
This fascinating specimen formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pocket formed by a buried fossil clamshell. This is a really pretty specimen, with the fine gemmy crystals growing up in a patch from a gently concave piece of the original shell. 4.6 x 4.5 x 3.4 cm
A unique "tree" of thin, platy, shimmering calcite crystals, an old Santa Eulalia piece, quite beautiful. At the bottom is a natural "base" - the piece stands up all by itself. 8.5 x 5.2 x 3.9 cm
8.7 x 7.2 x 7.0 cm. Lustrous, rust-red, goethite-coated calcite rhombs to 6 mm fill a large sculptural vug in matrix on this fine specimen from the Tsumeb Mine. Classic and highly representative material from this renowned locale. Ex. Rob Smith Collection, a noted Tsumeb specialist.
A very showy and excellent combination piece from Concepcion del Oro, Mexico of lustrous, striated, brass-yellow pyritohedrons with rosettes of colorless calcite crystals and gun-metal gray galena crystals on massive pyrite. Ex Marty Lewadny Collection of Winnipeg, Manitoba. 7.1 x 5.6 x 4.3 cm
A showy LARGE CABINET plate of very glassy, colorless calcite rhombs to 1.7 cm coated with pearlescent zincian dolomite. Scattered flecks of malachite add character to this large, flashy piece. 22.5 x 12.3 x 5.3 cm
A unique "pagoda" of stacked poker chip calcite crystals, with the two larger crystals having beautiful striated faces. 2.8 x 2.2 x 1.6 cm
Relatively large crystals of bright pink cobaltoan calcite, in a gentle recess in the host matrix. Cobaltoan calcite is most often found as a druse, and not large, distinct crystals. But recently, we acquired a batch of them. 8.7 x 5.9 x 4.1 cm
Lustrous, lightly frosted, untwinned, ruby-red cinnabar crystals to 5 mm very nicely set in a vug of contrasting, off-white calcite in limestone matrix from Charcas, Mexico. Cinnabar is uncommon from Charcas and this is excellent material., surely very old. 6.2 x 4.2 x 3.1 cm
An aesthetic sliver of a specimen of translucent, matte-finish, pastel-green calcite scalenohedrons on nicely contrasting dark brown matrix from a very uncommon Utah locality. The green color is caused by vanadium. A couple of broken scalenohedrons are certainly not detracting.. these are almost impossible to obtain and this is an old specimen from the MARTIN ZINN III Collection - accidentally got in the wrong pile here and ended up in the auctions, and labelled as the wrong collection previously (Hauck). It is from a small lot I obtained from the Zinn collection, though 5.7 x 2.8 x 2.3 cm
