A DRAMATIC and AESTHETIC Elmwood CABINET plate of highly lustrous "ruby-jack" sphalerite crystals on matrix with a beautifully set 2.3 cm, doubly terminated, glassy, light amber calcite crystal. Elmwood specimens of this quality are rapidly disappearing, with the recent closing of the mine. Excellent material from the Lewadny Collection. 11.8 x 11.0 x 4.7 cm
A BEAUTIFUL, water-clear and lustrous calcite scalenohedron with smaller aragonite and calcite crystals growing in and out of the crystal. The scalenohedron is pristine and the couple of broken smaller crystals certainly do not detract from the overall quality of this excellent Bor Quarry, Dalnegorsk, Russia piece. Not many were available in this quality. 6.6 x 1.0 x 0.7 cm
An excellent and showy Peru combination piece of modified, pink manganocalcite rhombs flanking a ridge of lustrous, translucent, gray quartz crystals and scattered sulfides. Ex Marty Lewadny Collection of Winnipeg, Canada. 7.2 x 5.5 x 3.7 cm
An EXCELLENT small cabinet plate dominated by two, gemmy red wulfenite crystals to 1.7 cm. Small wulfenite crystals abound. This piece is exceptional, because the matrix is covered with sparkly, tiny calcite crystals, which accentuate the wulfenites. This is one of the last small cabinet Red Gem Pocket pieces that we will offer at auction. Get yours, as the mine is now closed. 8.2 x 6.4 x 2.5 cm
Irai was known for these superb, gorgeous calcites, and then the supply seemed to dry up. There were hardly any available at the Tucson show, and they were overpriced, so we bought none. Then, to our surprise, we found this wonderful cache of new specimens with one dealer at the small Spring Denver Show, and cherry-picked all the best ones. Unlike in the past, the calcites in this batch showed all sorts of different forms - all of them beautiful. This one is unique for its unusually dark matrix which provides a stunning backdrop for the calcites. 8.2 x 6.8 x 4.3 cm
A beautiful and showy Tsumeb specimen of lustrous, translucent, colorless calcite rhombs included with dioptase and highlighted by four calcite-covered malachite balls. This is a VERY FINE sculptural, two-sided specimen with very little damage. 8.8 x 5.4 x 5.3 cm
A showy specimen of salmon-colored calcite rhombs from Sterling Hill, New Jersey, that fluoresces red under short-wave fluorescent lighting. The label on the back says that the piece was collected in 1968. 7.5 x 6.4 x 4.2 cm
Irai was known for superb calcites, and then the supply seemed to dry up. There were hardly any available at the Tucson show, and they were overpriced, so we bought none. Then, to our surprise, we found this wonderful cache of new specimens with one dealer at the small Spring Denver Show, and cherry-picked all the best ones. Unlike in the past, the calcites in this batch showed all sorts of different forms. This one has isolated, long, spiky translucent crystals. 15.4 x 10.6 x 5.9 cm
This fascinating specimen formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pocket formed by a buried fossil clamshell. The interior of the shell is now completely covered with these fine, golden crystals. 8.6 x 4.5 x 4.7 cm
A beautiful, pristine, gemmy thumbnail calcite scalenohedron with a blocky termination from Egremont, England. Classic, old-time material. 2.7 x 2.0 x 1.5 cm
An excellent plate of lustrous, translucent, frosted, light pink manganocalcite scalenohedrons to 2.8 cm on matrix from from the famous Idarado Mine at Telluride, Colorado. Very few damaged crystals on this beautiful piece. Ex Ruggiero Collection. SUPER ORANGE FLUORESCENCE! 8.2 x 5.5 x 3.0 cm
A showy specimen of a gemmy, color-zoned, yellow-green fluorite cube preferentially encrusted with lustrous, light amber calcite crystal from the Cave in Rock District of Illinois. The chalcopyrite crystals embedded in and on the fluorite crystal add character. Very minor periphery damage. Ex Marty Lewadny Collection of Winnipeg, Canada. 7.8 x 6.1 x 4.6 cm
This specimen formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pocket formed by a buried fossil clamshell. This one has fine, gemmy crystals with the shell hinge and some attached matrix forming a backdrop. A really good one! 6.5 x 5 x 4.2 cm
This is a really superb one, with slender, silky crystals to 4 cm in length. Two broken crystals really do not detract much with all the crystals sticking up everywhere here - in fact, just try to spot them! 9.6 x 6.8 x 3.7 cm
An old and very uncommon pseudomorph specimen from Zacatecas, featuring (from the index card of noted Tsumeb and Brazilian collector Ed Ruggiero who purchased it 30 years ago): "a mass of pyrrhotite plates completely altered to pyrite, and then an overgrowth of pyrite crystals and calcite crystals deposited. Very attractive as well as unusual." This description seems quite accurate. On close examination, you can see the platy former-pyrrhotite now replaced by pyrite, with small bright cubes of pyrite having come later. 7 x 6.9 x 5.3 cm
