A SUPER-GEMMY clear calcite crystal with intricate faces to it, and some inclusions of round laumontite clusters within the termination (which is slightly contacted though not damaged per se). Highly interesting and attractive! 5.5 x 5 x 3.5 cm
A dramatic, VERY COLORFUL specimen of metallic-orange orpiment crystals surrounding several larger white calcite crysatls. THe overall composition, when displayed from teh front, is striking and impressive. Despite the size of the piece and the fragility of orpiment in general, there is very little damage (just a bit of wear along the periphery as you would have to reasonably expect). The chisel-shaped orpiment terminations are impressive, aside from the color and lustre. 13 x 9.5 x 8.6 cm
5.5 x 4.5 x 3.2 cm. A superb set of absolutely gem-clear Calcite crystals from the N’Chwaning Mine. The largest of these crystals is 4 cm long, and it encompasses much of the matrix underneath. In fact, the crystals are so perfectly gemmy that every metallic inclusion and every bit of matrix under the crystals show up double-refracted, making it very hard to fully appreciate in the photos. It is much better in person - it looks like well-formed water, it is so clear. An absolutely stunning and unique calcite specimen - never seen the like. Ex. Charlie Key.
13.3 x 7.5 x 4.6 cm. This calcite on calcite exhibits twinning, great luster, and multiple terminations that clearly show wonderful cognac color. Best of all is the sculptural form, as if the top crystal is about to leap off from the upright pedestal it grew from. The top crystal measures 8.0 cm across.
15.8 x 10.9 x 9.0 cm. Aesthetically perched on limestone and a cluster of smaller calcite crystals is a 13 cm-tall, lustrous, translucent calcite which becomes more colorful and more transparent at the termination. The termination is robust and gemmy and intense. Speaking of the cognac colored termination it has split into 3 distinct crystal tips for a bit of extra visual interest.
11.9 x 8.5 x 5.3 cm. This is a twinned, doubly terminated, glassy, cognac-colored calcite crystal with multi terminations at each end. The specimen is pristine and I particularly like the way it sits up on a smaller twinned calcite crystal. The piece is completely formed all around save a small contact in the back.
9.3 x 7.9 x 5.3 cm. Just a sliver of limestone acts as the matrix for this lovely cognac colored, gemmy, twinned, doubly-terminated calcite specimen. I particularly like the forked appearance of the calcite. Pristine and glittering with natural luster.
14.2 x 14.1 x 7.0 cm. Highlighted by a cognac colored, gemmy, twinned and doubly-terminated calcite crystal, 13.0 cm across, this cluster of calcite crystals has a jackstraw appearance.
17.2 x 10.8 x 6.5 cm. On a matrix of ivory colored baryte, is a huge, intensely colored, cognac, gemmy, twinned and doubly terminated calcite crystal. For such a large crystal, this specimen is remarkably free of damage except for just the slightest touch of wear on the left wing.
17.3 x 13.1 x 12.3 cm. A large, 15 cm across, light cognac colored, doubly-terminated and twinned calcite crystal, is the largest of a cluster emplaced on cherty, gray limestone. There are also a few lustrous, gray, galena crystals, to 1.0 cm across. Considering the exposure of this 3-dimensional piece in the pocket, it is amazing it has survived, basically complete-all-around and on the rock matrix still.
19.4 x 11.5 x 10.1 cm. Almost every calcite crystal in this cluster is doubly terminated. One crystal is twinned, and all exhibit an intense cognac coloring and gemminess. The cluster is nearly pristine and complete-all-around, almost unheard of for the size. The largest crystal reaches 17 cm across. Once again the multi-forked terminations are a highlight for me.
21.7 x 11.0 x 9.2 cm. This is a fine example of Elmwood calcite where most of the crystals are doubly terminated, gemmy, with cognac coloring. The largest crystal is over 15 cm across. This specimen also features multi-forked terminations.
16.6 x 12.5 x 6.5 cm. This is a fine, doubly terminated, twinned, and gemmy crystal with intense cognac coloring, especially at the tips. Twinning takes place on one crystal. The multi-forked tips are just incredible.
17.3 x 8.3 x 7.9 cm. Two large doubly terminated, gemmy, cognac colored calcite crystals, to 13 cm across, are twinned, and one exhibits multi-forked tips. It is a very dramatic piece with extremely good lustre and translucency throughout.
12.7 x 6.5 x 5.5 cm. On a sliver of limestone matrix is a gemmy, lustrous, doubly-terminated and twinned calcite crystal. The transparency and rich glassy lustre is outstanding. It is nearly complete-all-around. The gemminess on this crystal, for the size, is astonishing.
