D10-98 - Cafarsite - $ 1800 Wanni glacier, Cervandone Mt. area, Binn Valley, Wallis, Switzerland (TYPE LOCALITY) miniature, 4.3 x 3.9 x 2.5 cm ex. James Zigras
Cafarsite is often earthy or dull. This crystal, measuring 1 cm across, is the most lustrous, shiny example I have yet seen for sale. It looks more like a sphalerite, of complex habit, than a cafarsite! This is a choice minaiture, with the main crystal and sidecars hosted on a well trimmed piece of granite matrix. In person, it is of a quality that just leaps out to the eye - again, so unlike most cafarsites that are techinically superb but lack flash and pizzazz.
MD-112565 - Cafarsite - - Archived Mount Cervandone, Devero Alp (Devero Valley; Val Devero), Baceno, Ossola Valley, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Province, Piedmont, Italy small cabinet, 5.5 x 4.3 x 3.1 cm
Two sharp octahedral crystals to 7 mm on edge and 9 mm across sit nicely on alpine granite matrix here. Classic rarity. 5.5 x 4.3 x 3.1 cm
MD-138031 - Cafarsite - - Archived Wanni glacier - Scherbadung Mt. (Cervandone Mt.) area, Kriegalp Valley (Chriegalp Valley), Binn Valley, Wallis (Valais), Switzerland thumbnail, 2.6 x 1.9 x 0.6 cm.
2.6 x 1.9 x 0.6 cm. Cafarsite is an ULTRA-RARE calcium titanium iron manganese arsenite. This SHOWY and EXCELLENT specimen from the Type Locality features two, very sharp, rust-brown, isometric cafarsite crystals to 4 mm jauntily perched on the edge of a plate covered with needle quartz crystals. Discrete, free-standing cafarsite crystals, such as this, viewable on both sides, are RARE. A superb combination specimen with this rare arsenite.
MD-177496 - Cafarsite - - Archived Wanni glacier - Scherbadung Mt. (Cervandone Mt.) area, Kriegalp Valley (Chriegalp Valley), Binn Valley, Wallis (Valais), Switzerland miniature, 4.0 x 2.0 x 1.2 cm.
4.0 x 2.0 x 1.2 cm. This piece features a robust, unusually equant and 3-dimensional modified cafarsite crystal of 1.4 cm in size, perched atop smaller crystals. Collected a few years ago by the intrepid strahler, collector, and dealer Gerd Wiedenbeck of Germany.
MD-219079 - Cafarsite - - Archived Wanni glacier - Scherbadung Mt. (Cervandone Mt.) area, Kriegalp Valley (Chriegalp Valley), Binn Valley, Wallis (Valais), Switzerland thumbnail, 1.0 x 1.0 x 0.7 cm.
1.0 x 1.0 x 0.7 cm. Cafarsite is a very rare, hydrated arsenite and this very fine, sharp crystal is from the Type Locality area in the Binn Valley of Switzerland. This dark sub-metallic, grey-brown crystal is a well formed modified cube with octahedral faces. This is an excellent example of species, large and very lustrous compared to most. Cafarsite was not recognized until 1966. Ex. Carl Davis Collection.
MD-33974 - Cafarsite - - Archived Wanni glacier - Scherbadung Mt. (Cervandone Mt.) area, Kriegalp Valley (Chriegalp Valley), Binn Valley, Wallis (Valais), Switzerland miniature, 3.5 x 1.8 x 1.3 cm
A sharp 8mm crystal on matrix, with several smaller, makes this a very attractive, extremely good example of the species. This one is more aesthetic overall, than most such pieces. 3.5 x 1.8 x 1.3 cm
MD-33975 - Cafarsite - - Archived Wanni glacier - Scherbadung Mt. (Cervandone Mt.) area, Kriegalp Valley (Chriegalp Valley), Binn Valley, Wallis (Valais), Switzerland thumbnail, 1.1 cm
A fat, equant, very fine 1.1 cm crystal perched on a pedestal of matrix - killer thumbnail! 2.5 x 1.6 x 1.5 cm
MD-33976 - Cafarsite - - Archived Wanni glacier - Scherbadung Mt. (Cervandone Mt.) area, Kriegalp Valley (Chriegalp Valley), Binn Valley, Wallis (Valais), Switzerland thumbnail, 2.6 x 1.8 x 0.3 cm

MD-40057 - Cafarsite - - Archived Wanni glacier - Scherbadung Mt. (Cervandone Mt.) area, Kriegalp Valley (Chriegalp Valley), Binn Valley, Wallis (Valais), Switzerland small cabinet, 6.1 x 5.1 x 4.1 cm
The calcium-titanium-iron-manganese-arsenate mineral cafarsite is very rare and seldom offered for sale by mineral dealers. This piece, from the famous Binn Valley of Switzerland, displays several, lustrous, chocolate colored octahedrons of cafarsite on a matrix of metarhyolite. The largest crystal is almost 1 cm across! Such a rich specimen is uncommon - most I have had in the past were more sparsely covered. 6.1 x 5.1 x 4.1 cm
MD-54403 - Cafarsite - - Archived Mount Cervandone, Devero Alp (Devero Valley; Val Devero), Baceno, Ossola Valley, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Province, Piedmont, Italy thumbnail, 1.0 cm
This Piedmont region of Italy, right at the Swiss border, has produced fine alpine minerals for hundreds of years. This matrix cafarsite specimen is no exception. This species composed of calcium, titanium, iron, and manganese, arsenate, features two, chocolate colored, lustrous octahedrons, aesthetically perched on matrix. The largest crystal measures right at 1.0 cm across. Just superb ! 2.9 x 2 x 1.4 cm
