A sheet of native silver, still embedded in the shimmering, irridescent matrix of bornite! You can see the silver vein running through the bornite around the edge of the matrix, and the bornite has been trimmed away to expose the silver for about half the overall size of the specimen. 4.8 x 3.1 x 2.4cm
A sheet of natural silver still embedded in a matrix of irisdescent bornite -- exposed at one end of the specimen (that is the silver sheet sticking up at the back side of the photo), and you can see the thin line running around the entire edge of the bornite which marks where the silver vein runs through it, completely dissecting it. Cool! 4.6 x 3.2 x 3.1cm
A sheet of native silver, bisecting a chunk of irisdescent bornite (prettier in person). In the pics, you can see the sheet of plate silver sticking out of the sides of the bornite. 5.3 x 3.5 x 3.3cm
A sheet of native silver, coated with blue-gray bornite, from Zacatecas. Not flimsy, but actually quite substantial. 6.4 x 3.5 x 0.8cm
A MAJOR miniature of a mineral that is quite rare in good, sizeable crystals. In fact, this is a TOWER of intergrown crystals, the top one measuring 2.5 cm top to bottom! The crystals have the most desirable and pretty blue/brass patina. SUPERB! From the 90's. 5 x 1.9 x 0.7 cm
Even though crystal faces are not in evidence, this is a very rich sample of bornite ore from the locale. Throughout this ore specimen are iridescent highlights of neon blue, gold, and purple. 7.3 x 5.4 x 3.8 cm
This specimen with unusually bright, brassy yellow, intergrown pyrite crystals also contains a large crystal of bornite plunked in the middle! The black, sharp bornite crystal is 3.1 cm in length. AMAZING size and quality for the bornite, especially from this locality! this is a world class piece, though, beyond its significance for the locale! What makes it so special is that often the bornites from here or anywhere are on boring matrix. this one has pizzazz! 6.7 x 5.5 x 1.8 cm
An old-time, classic specimen of iridescent bornite crystals from the famous Carn Brea Mine, Illogan, Redruth-St Day District, Cornwall, England. Ex Richard Barstow Collection. 2.1 x 1.8 x 1.7 cm
A STUNNING, hoppered crystal of chalcocite, very rare in this quality from Russia or ANYWHERE for that matter, with purple iridescence. Just an incredibly well-articulated crystal of a mineral that is really rare in such fine definition. In person, its multihued coating of bornite really sparkles with more color than you see here. 2.7 x 2 x 0.6 cm
A very rare locallity bornite specimen. i had never known of Morocco for the mineral, but here it is, and in sharp crystals too. Ex. Dr. Mark Feinglos COllection. 4.3 x 1.3 x 1.3 cm
I know Mark...he collects bornite and bought this for the superb BORNITE crystallization evident throughout the lower part of the specimen! For the rest of us, though, that beautiful and sharp purple fluorite is the focal point, and for this it has a real value as an aesthetic fluorite from this mine. 5.6 x 4.6 x 3.3 cm
ex. Marilyn Dodge
Seldom do you find a combination piece with such nice aesthetics (unless you are dealing with this wonderful collection, of course). The large octahedral Carrollite had a rich metallic luster and very interesting modified edges. The Bornite crystals resting on the Carrollite are highly modified, but the depth of the black color is so perfectly complemented by the velvety texture and the rounded crystal edges that the overall look is extremely pleasing - as well as contrasting to teh carrollite so that both stand out fully. A unique combination piece with incredible aesthetics for a "black ugly" !
ex. Dr. Mark Feinglos
WOW! a very rare locallity bornite specimen! i had never known of Morocco for the mineral, but here it is, and in sharp crystals too!
ex. Martin Zinn
An exceptionally sharp 9mm bornite crystal of pseudo-octohedral form, perched nicely on barite matrix (with minor calcite as well). Oustanding crystal quality on this piece (though not worth the $400 on the Zinn appraisal label based on which I had to purchase the lot, sadly for me).
