An exceptional cluster of euhedral, sharp Betafite crystals, the largest of which is an amazing 1.8 cm across. These heavily modified cuboctahedrons are brown, with a vitreous waxy luster. Included in their surface are several reddish Zircon crystals - unusual! It is unusual to find these Betafites in such good-quality crystals and with a nice patina to them. Slightly radioactive, and rare in this quality.

2.3 x 2.2 x 2.0 cm. A floater, really sharp, multi-faceted, tan betafite crystal from the type locale in Betafo, Madagascar. Old and desirable material, rarely available. Complete all-around, textbook cubic crystal form, with only one dinged corner, which is certainly not a detraction. Ex. Jean Behier and George Elling Collections.

Betafite is a strange brew of uranium, titanium, and niobium, a member of the pyrochlore group of species. This is a huge, floater betafite crystal with pretty good aesthetics for a "rare earth ugly"; and also unusually complete and symmetric for a large crystal. Athough not from the type locality mine for the species, this is from the same pegmatite deposit.
