This is a large crystal of transparent beryl that has been intricately etched by corrosive solutions that flowed through the pocket sometime after the crystal had formed. The result is this weird, jagged, but still transparent crystal - hard to photograph, much better and more glassy in person. It is riveting, and complete all around! 7.7 x 7.3 x 4.5 cm

A striking as this specimen looks in the pics, it is far more striking in person. That’s because the aquamarine crystal has a gemmy clarity that absolutely cannot be exceeded – it is absolutely clear as glass. There is a tiny conchoidal ding on the termination, but you have to really look for it to see it with the naked eye. The termination is otherwise so flat and perfect, and the crystal so clear, that you can see all the way through 5 cm of the crystal as if looking through water. And, the position of the crystal on the carefully-trimmed matrix could not be more dramatic! The crystal actually extends down into the matrix, all the way to the bottom of the matrix. 5 x 3.7 x 1.5 cm

A major showpiece Chinese combo specimen, combining a big, fine scheelite crystal with fine tabular aquamarines! This specimen has a LUSTROUS, SHARP, UNDAMAGED orange scheelite crystal nestled amongst the bladed muscovite crystals. On the other end of the specimen is a group of gemmy, tabular aquamarines, to 4 cm across(!). Only one of the crystals has a contact on the back side where the specimen was against the matrix rock (the bottom was sawn flat to remove the specimen from the host rock). The aquas have attractive "pebbly" faces and window-clear edges into the gemmy interiors. 17.7 x 11.0 x 6.7 cm

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine), Quartz (Var: Smoky Quartz) from San Luis Potosí, Mexico [db_pics/mdpics/MD-74810a.jpg]

I must say upfront that aquas from Mexico are rare to non –existent, making this matrix specimen unusually good. I DID NOT BELIEVE IT WHEN I FIRST SAW IT - BUT IT WAS EVAN'S, AND HE IS really an expert and longtime collector of Mexican goodies. I also verified with others - it is rare, legit, and probably among the very best of its kind. The large aqua measures about an inch atop the quartz, but is technically 4.5 cm in length (extending through the quartz as it does), nestled in a matrix of smoky quartz crystals to 1.5 cm in length. The aqua, is lustrous, translucent, sky blue, with a core of colorless goshenite beryl. The termination, while rough, is comprised of tiny incipient faces and thus terminated quite fully. It is actually doubly-terminated Note the phantom core! . Minor damage or contact does exist, but compared to the significance of the specimen, is unimportant. I was able to get this from Evan directly in a trade. labels from Evan and the Schlepp’s accompany this old timer. 5.1 x 4.0 x 2.8 cm

A very sharp, lustrous 7 x 4 cm prismatic beryl crystal of translucent blue-green color, with minor muscovite on a flat pinacoid termination. Ex Harvard University specimen, unusually fine quality for this locality and in particular for the sheer size of it. NOTE THAT THE TERMINATION IS THERE! OFTEN THEY ARE CONTACT TERMINATIONS BUT THIS IS A REAL ONE, AS EVIDENCED BY THE MINUTE MICA DEPOSITION ATOP! THIS IS A MAJOR PIECE FOR THE LOCALITY! 6.8 x 3.8 x 3.2 cm
