Beryl, Quartz (Var: Smoky Quartz), Tourmaline, Albite from Cryo-Genie Mine (Cindy B-Cryogenie; Lost Valley Truck Trail prospect), Warner Springs, Warner Springs District, San Diego Co., California, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-54577a.jpg]

An EXCELLENT and showy Cryo-Genie Mine CABINET combination piece from teh Chris Korpi Collection. It features a large and glassy, 4.0 cm colorless beryl crystal nicely set in albite matrix with lustrous, smoky quartz crystals and gemmy, polychrome, pencil tourmalines to 2.0 cm. The beryl crystal was tested as cesium-rich, I am told by Korpi. The bit of edgewear on the beryl corner is certainly not detracting too much visually, but there is a small cleaved area up there on the top corner of the crysatl. It is VERY gemmy and bright, and the contrast to matrix really highlights the colorlessness of the beryl. For the mine, this is absolutely superb in quality. 10.3 x 8.4 x 6.8 cm

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine), Muscovite from Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-54620a.jpg]

A gemmy light blue-gray crystal measuring 5-cm, next to a 2.5-cm crystal, both terminated in the center of the display face -- on a bed of muscovite crystals. If you look at the side of this specimen, where it was removed from the pocket, you can see that the 5-cm crystal actually is wide and flat, extending back underneath the muscovite for 7 centimeters! This large and showy specimen was sawn flat on the bottom and back to remove it from the matrix and give it a natural base for display. 15.0 x 11.3 x 9.6cm

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine) from Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-54681a.jpg]

This strange-looking large aquamarine crystal from Brazil got this way naturally - etched by corrosive solutions flowing through the pocket in which it originally formed. The solutions left this craggy though terminated, sculptural crystal. THis is just gorgeous, in a complex and surreal way, and very interesting. It is an older piece, as well. 13.4 x 5.3 x 3.7cm

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine), Schorl from Erongo Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-57208a.jpg]

Some of the best contemporary Aquamarine specimens are those from Erongo. Not only is the quality superb on many of these Aqua specimens, but the associations can make for some really stellar specimens. This piece features a 2.5 cm razor sharp, highly lustrous, gem/gemmy deep blue color Aquamarine crystal aesthetically flaring out of the center of two relatively thick, lustrous, doubly-terminated black Schorl crystals plus some whitish Feldspar crystals on the reverse side of the specimen forming a highly displayable and attractive combination specimen from this prolific locality. One end of the Schorl crystals is comprised of dozens of tiny terminations. A very good specimen for size, aesthetics, color contrast and associations. 6.4 x 5.0 x 3.7cm

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine) from Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-57209a.jpg]

When it comes to Aquamarine, Pakistan is the most productive country for specimens in the modern age of mineral collecting. Some of the very finest quality Aquamarine specimens come from the various pegmatites in the Paki Himalayas, especially in the Shigar Valley. This crystal is a very good quality, sharp, gem quality crystal with top glassy luster and a good rich blue color for a crystal this size. A few accenting Feldspar crystals and an unknown black inclusion make for a great gem pencil from this world famous locality. 7.2 x 1.2 x 0.9cm

This specimen features a mound of whitish microcline crystals serving as a base for a group of gemmy, lustrous, light blue color Aquamarines measuring up to 2.3 cm. The crystal terminations are all flat hexagonal but stop and start at different points along the structure. There are also some Muscovite blades and Quartz crystals associated as well. This is an attractive piece from this well known Aqua-producing locality. 7.8 x 5.5 x 4.8cm

This piece features a 2.8 cm razor sharp, highly lustrous, gem/gemmy deep blue color, doubly-terminated Aquamarine crystal with another slightly smaller sidecar crystal of equal quality aesthetically flaring off of some whitish Feldspar crystals forming a highly displayable and attractive matrix specimen from this prolific locality. A very good specimen for size, aesthetics, color contrast and associations. Much better color than the large majority of Pakistan Aqua''s. 4.8 x 3.0 x 2.0cm

This is one of the first Aquas I''ve seen from this locality and it is truly one of the most unique Beryls I''ve seen from any locality. The lower 80% of this crystal is a very deep blue, nearly opaque color, but the termination is comprised of a lighter color, much gemmier and oddly crystallized group of dozens of individual crystals. The crystal has great luster, save the spots where it must have been attached to another mineral of some kind, possibly Feldspar that was dissolved away in the pocket long ago. This crystal is a one of a kind as far as I know, as I have never quite seen anything like it. A unique and rare Aqua from a prolific gem crystal locality. 3.8 x 3.0 x 2.3cm

This is a SUPERB gem emerald, with very desirable DEEP saturated spectral green color, very gemmy, terminated, and complete all around! It measures one 0.9 cm, so just under a centimeter. The emerald just sits there glowing against the backdrop of the contrasting matrix. There is a little bonus crystal just beneath it. 6.4 x 4.2 x 3.4cm

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine), Microcline, Schorl from Haramosh Mts., Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-61446a.jpg]

This is a very large Baveno-twinned crystal of microcline, impressive in its own right, with sharp faces, good luster and nicely terminated, decorated with crystals of aquamarine, schorl and small albites! Several of the aquas are of good size - the largest measures 4.5 cm and is doubly-terminated. In fact, just about all the terminations on all the aquas are intact! The little schorls give a pretty "salt and pepper" effect to the pile of albite and schorl wrapped around the bottom of the big albite. A VERY impressive mineral specimen. 12.3 x 9.7 x 7.4cm
