Beryl (Var: Emerald) from Coscuez Mine (Cosquez Mine), Muzo, Vasquez-Yacopí Mining District, Boyacá Department, Colombia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-168220a.jpg]

4.7 x 4.1 x 3.6 cm. The Emerald measures 3.0 x 1.2 cm. The crystal is perfectly centered against a matrix of white Calcite. It is highly gemmy for an Emerald of this size, and not at all cloudy or murky, like so many tend to be. The color is almost electric as it is not a dark green, but a very vibrant green and extremely lively. The crystal itself is perfectly terminated with sharp, lustrous faces on the prism. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine) from Jos Plateau, Plateau State, Nigeria [db_pics/mdpics/MD-168222a.jpg]

4.2 x 1.3 x 1.2 cm. This is such a richly colored Aquamarine crystal it really should be called "Blue Beryl". In addition to the color, the crystal is incredibly gemmy (nearly 95% gem quality) with good luster some attractive pyramidal modifications to the termination. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine), Feldspar Group from Gilgit, Gilgit District, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-168228a.jpg]

8.2 x 5.2 x 3.9 cm. This specimen features a wondrous GEM quality crystal of Aquamarine with an alluring baby blue color and remarkably sharp, lustrous faces. The crystal is aesthetically flaring off partially etched, off-white color, blocky Microcline crystal matrix. The Aqua measures 6.5 x 1.7 cm. Actually, there's a little broken "stem" on the bottom of the Aqua crystal, so you can technically say that's part of the crystal, then the size would actually be 7.6 x 1.7 cm. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.

9.2 x 5.6 x 5.1 cm. This beauty is a very impressive Morganite crystal showing a lovely baby pink color and wonderful gem quality sections. The piece has superb textbook tabular hexagonal form with some modifying 1011 and 1121 faces along the pinacoid. On the back of the crystal is an attractive "snowball" of white Albite (var: "Cleavelandite") and due to the fact that the Morganite crystal is so gemmy, the Cleavelandite shows all the way through to the front. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.

Beryl (Var: Morganite) from Galiléia, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-168631a.jpg]

4.8 x 3.9 x 3.9 cm. This is a very large crystal of gem morganite, with fine peach color. The crystal is rough, with plenty of contact, but it has a nice glassy face that serves as the display face, and the crystal has BOTH of its terminations. Through the glassy window, you note that the interior is VERY gemmy! This impressive crystal came from the collection of Norm Dawson, and weighs 173 grams.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine) from Erongo Mountain, Usakos and Omaruru Districts, Erongo Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-168645a.jpg]

4.4 x 3.8 x 2.9 cm. These aquamarine crystals have a very unusual gemminess to them for the locality; they are not terribly blue (though there is more blue color in person)...but their gemminess, luster, and the way they rise in parallel on a plate of matrix (rather than being a jumble of intergrown crystals as some are) makes this an unusually aesthetic mini for the locality.

MD-168654 - Beryl (Var: Aquamarine), Schorl - - Archived

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine), Schorl from Erongo Mountain, Usakos and Omaruru Districts, Erongo Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-168654a.jpg]

6.2 x 4.5 x 1.8 cm. Yet another combo from Erongo, showing yet another variation on the theme of aqua and schorl that is well-known from this locality. This is a top-notch specimen from a recent find of BI-COLORED aquamarine crystals, with colorless bottoms and gemmy blue-green terminations! In this case, the crystals sit on a bed of contrasting tiny, acicular schorl crystals that create a perfect setting.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine) from Erongo Mountain, Usakos and Omaruru Districts, Erongo Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-168678a.jpg]

6.7 x 2.1 x 2.1 cm. A gemmy (for Erongo) aquamarine crystal has grown around a smaller one, which shoots out from its side. You can see small inclusions of schorl and other minerals. The crystal has a fine termination on top. Weighs 20 grams.

8.4 x 4.7 x 4.1 cm. A gemmy, complete crystal of 4.5 cm, in a bed of snowy cleavelandite. The display face features a clear window into the absolutely limpid pale pink interior.

Beryl from Bahia, Northeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-168694a.jpg]

9.2 x 4.4 x 3.9 cm. Weighing in at 272 grams, this is a huge crystal of golden beryl from Brazil, mostly gemmy through the interior, from the collection of Ed Ruggiero (with his collection card). It is an old-timer that Ruggiero acquired in 1976. The termination is complete and undamaged - with a natural etch pit filled with little stepped, chevron-shaped faces. I would describe the luster as "silky." There is natural etching on the side faces.

2.7 x 1.7 x 1.5 cm. A SUPER-CUTE thumbnail of a GEM, sharp, morganite crystal beautifully set upright in white albite and lavender lepidolite matrix from Galileia, Brazil. Just a really nifty specimen! Ex. Steve Smale Collection.

Beryl (Var: Emerald), Calcite from La Pita Mine, La Pita, Maripi, Vasquez-Yacopí Mining District, Boyacá Department, Colombia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-168828b.jpg]

3.3 x 3.1 x 2.8 cm. A superb, gemmy, intensely green, 1.8 cm emerald crystal set in glassy, colorless calcite rhombs from the less well-known La Pita Mine of Colombia. The crystal broke in half in the pocket, due to tectonic forces, and remains in place by attachment to the surrounding calcite crystals. The upper 1.0 cm has beautiful emerald-green color saturation and gemminess.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine), Albite from Erongo Mountain, Usakos and Omaruru Districts, Erongo Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-169701a.jpg]

12.4 x 11.5 x 4.6 cm. This is a MAJOR Erongo specimen. This specimen is cabinet-sized. The large crystal you see measures 5 cm in length, and as you can see, has saturated blue color and is very gemmy at the business end. It and ALL the aquas are finely terminated, and have gemmy top halves. Black schorl tourmalines add an accent in various forms, including blocky crystals and slender needles.

4.9 x 2.9 x 2.3 cm. Two DOUBLY-TERMINATED crystals, the longer one measuring 4.5 cm, lying across one another (one has grown around the other), with a bit of accenting matrix. The crystals have some thin coating but have good blue color.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine) from Galiléia, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-169747a.jpg]

6.6 x 3.3 x 2.9 cm. This large Brazilian aquamarine crystal dates from finds back in the 1950s and 1960s at the Galilea Mine. Weighing 84 grams, it is extremely gemmy and is DOUBLY-TERMINATED. The bottom termination and back of the crystal are complexly modified by natural etching. You can see the patterns of the etched areas in back through the clear front (display face) of the crystal.
