Beryl (Var: Emerald), Calcite from Coscuez Mine (Cosquez Mine), Muzo, Vasquez-Yacopí Mining District, Boyacá Department, Colombia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-164080a.jpg]

6.8 x 6.2 x 4.0 cm. A gorgeous small cab specimen featuring the very rare and desirable association of intense gemmy green emeralds on the black calcite, which enhances the green hue of the emeralds visually! The emeralds measure about 1.5 cm each and have not only top color, but a glassy lustre that is off the charts. They are solidly anchored in the calcite, and fully terminated. Ed had very few gem crystals, and favored beryls - this was one of just 3 emeralds in the collection, and was purchased by him in 1997. Ex. Dr. Edward David, Russell Behnke Collections.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine) from Medina, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-164081a.jpg]

23.5 x 4 x 4 cm. This is one of only a dozen or so great pieces to be preserved from this most famous Aqua find of modern era! This piece GLOWS and has the juiciest deepest richest blue color characteristic from the famous Medina pocket of 1997. Most folks consider this the most important find of gem quality aquamarine in a single pocket, since the 1940s find of the style of the "Pioneer Aqua" there. Weight 650 grams. Ex. Dr. Edward David Collection.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine), Albite from Shengus (Shingus), Haramosh Mts., Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-164082a.jpg]

15 x 14 x 12 cm. The crystal here is VERY GLASSY and has a high color saturation for an aqua from Shengus. It measures 9 x 3.5 x 3 cm in size and rises majestically from the matrix. It presents as a dramatic specimen because the 9-cm-tall aqua is perched on CRYSTALLIZED matrix, for startling contrast not just in color but in crystal form as well.

17 x 11 x 6.5 cm. This crystl weighs just over a kilo. The crystal measures 10 x 8.5 cm, is 3.5 cm or 1.75 inches thick, and is complete all around. It has a minor indentation on the left side that is crystallized in faces with attached albite blades over them.

18.5 x 4.9 x 4.2 cm. This huge, pristine, complete-all-around GEM crystal is 690 grams of pure choice heliodor cutting rough! These were mined from an anomalous pod in this old mine, in the 1980s, and are now classics hard to find. Large specimens, such as this one, are most often radiated over to aquamarine and cut for the gem value.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine), Feldspar Group from Shengus (Shingus), Haramosh Mts., Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-164097a.jpg]

14 x 12 x 7.5 cm. This is a stunning, 3-dimensional piece that is as close to a work of natural sculpture as you can ask for an aquamarine matrix piece. The large crystal is 8 cm tall (over 3 inches), 3 x 2.2 cm wide and thick. All crystals have GLASSY lustre and an intense color to them, partly reinforced by an internal "phantom crystal" within them that goes up to the midpoint of each crystal. The top halves are, then, totally gemmy. This is a specimen from a now-famous pocket found in late 2005.

14 x 3.7 x 2.4 cm. A simply superb, 100% GEMMY and TRANSPARENT, complete floater crystal from famous finds here at the Jaqueto mine, that have trickled out over time. Comes with custom engraved lucite base, for easy display. Weights 223 grams. Ex. Dr. Eugene Meieran Collection.

Beryl from Erongo Mountain, Usakos and Omaruru Districts, Erongo Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-164959a.jpg]

8.9 x 6.6 x 3.2 cm. Now familiar for its specimens of aquamarine and schorl, the Erongo lately produced this new find of translucent beryl crystals that are colorless for most of their length, but green at the tips! (the green is a lot more distinct in person - the camera did not pick up these green tips that well but they are VERY noticeable in person). The crystals measure to 2.5 cm in length; there is an aesthetic burst of them around the center of the specimen. A beautiful and 3-dimensional example of this new find.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine) from Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-165040a.jpg]

5.8 x 3.9 x 2.5 cm. What makes this aquamarine specimen special, in addition to the extreme gemminess of the main crystal, is the INTENSE blue color; Pakistani aquamarines (as all aquas) can be anywhere from washed-out and barely blue to UNCOMMONLY blue, as this one is. The main crystal measures 4.5 cm, with two sidecar crystals; all three are perfectly terminated and very lustrous. They are set against a fatter, milkier crystal in back. Ex. Dave Stoudt collection.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine) from Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-165050a.jpg]

5.9 x 1.3 x 1.3 cm. A beautiful GEM crystal of aquamarine that has it all: color, pristine glassy transparency, and glassy luster on the faces as well. It is also DOUBLY-TERMINATED, with a pristine termination on top and a rather rough but complete one (with some matrix attachment) on the bottom. They just do not get much better than this cutter-quality crystal. Weighs 16 grams.

4.5 x 4.1 x 3.9 cm. A RARE, CLASSIC and HIGHLY DESIRABLE combination specimen from the famed Tourmaline Queen Mine! A 2.2 cm blue-cap tourmaline crystal is aesthetically set in to the side of a sharp, gemmy and lustrous, peach-pink morganite crystal. This is not a "shiny" blue-cap, but it is STILL a blue-cap. This super piece is from the personal stash of Ed Swoboda, partner in the famous early 1970s mining effort at the Tourmaline Queen. Few were found in this combination!! CLASSIC material.

3.4 x 1.6 x 1.2 cm. Colorless beryl, or goshenite, is actually rather uncommon compared to, say, aquamarine or morganite, particularly in prismatic crystals such as this. This Brazilian crystal is complete all around, well-terminated and gemmy. It weighs 13 grams.

4.4 x 2.2 x 1.5 cm. A gemmy Brazilian aqua with glassy luster (which you cannot see from the photo). The termination has this weird natural feature that is hard to figure out: a recessed area with a plateau in the center raised slightly higher than the rest of the termination, like a column rising out of the termination. Weird! The crystal weighs 30 grams. No damage or contacts!

12.4 x 11.2 x 7.5 cm. You are likely familiar with the aquamarine and schorl specimens that have come from the Erongo Mountains in Namibia over the past few years. Here is a NEW FIND in the area - crystals of bi-colored beryl to 3 cm shooting out all over from a mass of acicular schorl. You can clearly see the blue-green tips terminations that cap the otherwise colorless beryl crystals.

4.7 x 3.3 x 3.0 cm. A gemmy and showy cluster of light sea-green emerald crystals on magnesite matrix from Brumado, Brazil. The emerald crystals are very glassy and there is distinct color-zoning within the crystals. These are a novel, light color, green-blue in fact, and the glassy lustre is like nothing I have seen from here before. Small but superb "jewel-like" crystals!
