07edd26bc - Emerald on Calcite - $ 9200 SOLD Las Penas, near Cosquez, Boyaca Dept, Colombia miniature, 5.1 x 3.6 x 2.6 cm ex. Dr. Edward David
This is a most unusual emerald specimen, featuring dark green crystals in narrow stairstep growth , one upon and reachng out from the next, extending elegantly out from a well trimmed matrix! I have never seen the like! This is not a major gem emerald perhaps, but is really a special piece because it so draws the eye with the combination of color and sculptural aesthetics. It is as impactful as an emerald miniature could be, aside from a gem crystal of much higher price point. NOTE : there is ONE CLEAN REPAIR to this specimen, in the middle of the cluster. It is hard to notice and I am sure that Ed himself never realized it.

ART-03 - Aquamarine - $ 12500 SOLD Shigar Valley, Skardu, Northern Areas, Pakistan cabinet, 10.1 x 3.7 x 2.9 cm
3-dimensional cluster that gives new meaning to the words "aqua spray!" This pristine cluster is one of the best of this style I have seen recently, evoking a memory of a famous pocket that came out around 1988, where all the sprays were so dramatic (albeit with smaller crystal size). Now, such forms come as a trickle, a few per year perhaps. This one is particularly nice because of the size of the crystals, the deep color, the transparency throughout the upper 75%, the pristine condition , and the wonderful 360-degree symmetry and displayability. Mined in early 2007, this is a superb aquamarine cluster in its own right, painting aside. It is pristine and complete all around with no damage nor repairs. It has a wonderful bright lustre to it, and is more gemmy in person due to the difficulty of photographing gem crystals with depth in clusters, like this one (light refracts off slight veils in person to make the bodies of crystals in the camera's eye more cloudy than they actually appear to the human eye in person). Gamini said he was so taken aback by the sharpness, the geometric citylike growth, of this aquamarine cluster that he wanted to accentuate this feature in his painting by sharpening the edges and diminishing the gemminess so it looks like a carved ice sculpture. Price includes specimen, painting, and custom lucite base for display.
ART-12 - Aquamarine on Muscovite - $ 35000 SOLD Nagar, Hunza Valley, Gilgit District, Northern Areas, Pakistan cabinet, 14 x 12.3 x 6.7 cm
At first glance, you might think from the photos this would be a miniature - to have such balance and proportion is after all unlikely in a large specimen. Yet, at 1500 grams and 6 inches in length, its the size of a large grapefruit or small melon! This doubly-terminated "cannon" shaped aquamarine is truly a beast, but an aesthetic one despite its size. I, and several other dealer/friends who have seen much of what Nagar has produced and sent to the European and US market, would go so far as so think it ranks up there among the top five to ten specimens from the region for overall quality and aesthetics. This is one of two great specimens that came together from a single pocket in 2007. The piece is shockingly complete all around, with no repairs, and only a small ding and a shallow contact/damaged spot on the lower-rear tip of the bottom - totally facing away from any view. This doubly-terminated crystal is perched on a natural pedestal of bladed, roseate muscovite matrix. This "makes" the piece...you need that natural pedestal to distance it from all the singles out there. However, the unusally high glassy lustre, geometry, and gemminess (especially for the size, as most large Nagar aquas go more opaque) are also superior. Gamini, who ignored price and my own criteria when picking pieces he felt were artistic, and who hasn't spent years trying to judge and grade Nagar aquas, went right to this one the first time he saw it in my case - while ignoring quite a few other aquas, some pricier. Price includes specimen, painting, and custom lucite base for display. NOTE. A professional photo by Joe Budd , on gradient background, was recently added. THIS SHOWS THE TRUE COLOR AND LUSTRE, which was very difficult for us to photograph with normal equipment as it is so bright and lustrous!
AZMEX02 - Aquamarine on Smoky Quartz - $ 2200 SOLD San Luis Potosi, Mexico miniature, 5.1 x 4.0 x 2.8 cm ex. Evan Jones
I must say upfront that aquas from Mexico are rare to non –existent, making this matrix specimen unusually good. I DID NOT BELIEVE IT WHEN I FIRST SAW IT - BUT IT WAS EVAN'S, AND HE IS really an expert and longtime collector of Mexican goodies. I also verified with others - it is rare, legit, and probably among the very best of its kind. The large aqua measures about an inch atop the quartz, but is technically 4.5 cm in length (extending through the quartz as it does), nestled in a matrix of smoky quartz crystals to 1.5 cm in length. The aqua, is lustrous, translucent, sky blue, with a core of colorless goshenite beryl. The termination, while rough, is comprised of tiny incipient faces and thus terminated quite fully. It is actually doubly-terminated Note the phantom core! . Minor damage or contact does exist, but compared to the significance of the specimen, is unimportant. I was able to get this from Evan directly in a trade. labels from Evan and the Schlepp’s accompany this old timer.
ch01 - Morganite on Quartz - $ 2500 SOLD Elizabeth R Mine, San Diego County, California, USA cabinet, 15.1 x 11.0 x 7.5 cm ex. Chuck Houser
This specimen features a dramatic 3 x 2 inch morganite hanging off the side of a smoky quartz. association pieces, and good morganite of any kind for that matter, is uncommon in San Diego except for the famous White Queen Mine (and even there, not THAT cmmon)! The morganite is complete on the front, contacted and partially recrystallized on the back. Morganite from County is usually rather etched, as well. But, not this one. A remarkable display specimen found by Roland Reed and passed on to Chuck in the 1990s.
