LTH-33 - Azurite on Bayldonite - $ 1250 SOLD Tsumeb Mine, Otjikoto Region, Namibia thumbnail, 3.3 x 2 x 1.6 cm ex. Martin Lewadny
Terrific Azurites always come to mind when mentioning Tsumeb but this piece is shocking, ridiculous in color contrastr - it stands out from all other such azuyurite thumbers I have seen and is competition level, thus. These deep blue, sharp, rectangular prisms with classic lustrous, striated faces are set off beautifully against contrasting halloween-green Bayldonite (microcrystals). The Azurite crystals average 1-1.5 cm. This makes for a uniquely attractive toenail (large thumbnail or small miniature) specimen that is well-balanced, aesthetic, and very hard to come by. The association is rare. Ex. Sam Nasser collection.
MD-119974 - Bayldonite, Mimetite - - Archived Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia small cabinet, 5.8 x 5.5 x 5.0 cm.
5.8 x 5.5 x 5.0 cm. A very showy and unusual, coral-like, branching specimen of radial clusters of sparkly, blades and club-shaped crystals of bayldonite on tan mimetite from Tsumeb. A VERY INTERESTING and excellent combo piece form Tsumeb. The bayldonite is an oxidation alteration product of the mimetite. Ex. George Elling Collection.
MD-122945 - Cerussite, Bayldonite - - Archived Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia small cabinet, 7.3 x 3.5 x 3.0 cm.
7.3 x 3.5 x 3.0 cm. Glassy, cyclically-twinned cerussite crystals are aesthetically scattered on matrix covered with mounded, botryoidal, green bayldonite on this showy combination specimen from Tsumeb. Ex. George Elling Collection.
MD-147006 - Azurite, Malachite, Bayldonite - - Archived Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia small cabinet, 5.6 x 4.5 x 2.5 cm.
5.6 x 4.5 x 2.5 cm. An OLD-TIME and very showy Tsumeb specimen of highly lustrous, dark navy-blue azurite crystals and velvet malachite after azurite crystals on green bayldonite matrix. The sprinkling of tiny cerussite crystals is a very nice accent. Definitely from the upper oxidized zone of this famous and now-closed mine. This old-timer was in the Carl Bosch and Smithsonian Collections and includes Carl Bosch’s handwritten label. Carl Bosch was a very prominent European collector who lived from 1874-1940. The Smithsonian purchased his collection in 1965, which numbered 25,000 mineral specimens! The Bosch label number of 8065 indicates an old piece. It’s rich in crystals of high quality - he never collected junk.

7.5 x 4.8 x 4.1 cm. An old-time, classic and showy Cornwall specimen of green bayldonite crystals richly covering quartz matrix from the less well-known Wheal Carpenter Mine. Wheal Carpenter opened in 1792, with sporadic and limited production continuing until 1855. Very highly representative material for the species and locality. Ex. John Ydren Collection.

9.6 x 6.2 x 5.5 cm. Massive bayldonite on which is a layer of microcrystalline druse, sparkling in vugs. In the central vug are elongated, acicular crystals of what look like hair-like malachite. It is almost certainly from the early 1900s and the first (upper) oxidation zone.

13 x 8 x 6 cm. This is a solid specimen composed of bayldonite pseudomorphs after mimetite on a matrix of bayldonite, anglesite, etc. The specimen likely dates to the oldest explorations of the upper oxidized zone. MD-207323 - Azurite, Bayldonite, Malachite - - Archived Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia miniature, 4.1 x 3.1 x 2.2 cm.
4.1 x 3.1 x 2.2 cm. An absolutely stunning, and rare, old-time specimen from the Tsumeb Mine. Here are striking blue, razor-sharp crystals of azurite, on a backdrop of moss-colored botryoidal bayldonite (Hydrated Copper Lead Arsenate Hydroxide) which has coated botryoidal malachite. The contrast between the azurites and bayldonite is just so striking.
