I am told that this was one of the best pieces in the size range from the famous 1998 find here, which Horst Burkard brought out to Tucson of 1999. The crystals have superb lustre, oustanding form, and literally leap off the contrasting matrix at the viewer, for dramatic effect. The color contrast is what makes the piece in part, but also the 3-dimensionality of the crystals leaping out at you. They are complete around , with only a few trivial contacts on the sides and with all major crystals completely pristine. This is a showpiece, no doubt about it!

A plate of light green massive malachite is the host for a crust of intergrown, "primary’ deep green, acicular crystals of malachite, to .2 cm across. The malachite is surmounted by a swath of lustrous, intricately crystallized , deepest-azure-blue azurite. This specimen looks just like an abstract painting with thick brush strokes and the contrast in form supplemented by color is striking! One of the better large plates of this habit, that I have seen

I remember when these came out in the late 1980s, and none of us had seen but micros for azurite from Brazil and all of a sudden here is a table full of it! And, in rosetts no less, the best of them with partial alteration to malachite and thus a lovely color contrast! Here, on a limonite matrix, is one of the most aesthetic groups of azurite and malachite from this Brazilian deposit that I have seen. Intergrown, spheres of velvety green malachite and rich blue azurite, to 1.0 cm across, cover the matrix. I love the alternating green and blue spheres as they form several stalactitic growths. A visual smorgasbord! Some small number has trickled out recently, but nothing like the quality of pieces like this, from going on over 15 years ago now. Better in person!

BY FAR the bewst of these Brazilian maalachites I have seen! This specimen is highlighted by spheroidal rosettes, to 1.5 cm across, of azurite that have been totally replaced by rich green, malachite. In addition, there are smaller botryoids of "primary" light green malachite, to .3 cm across, that abound all over the specimen as a secondary growth upon the malachite that has replaced the azurite. I remember when these came out in the late 1980s, and none of us had seen but micros for azurite from Brazil and all of a sudden here is a table full of it! And, in rosetts no less, the best of them with partial alteration to malachite and thus a lovely color contrast! Some small number has trickled out recently, but nothing like the quality of pieces like this, from going on over 15 years ago now. Better , more 3-dimensional by far, in person!

Many of these fine pseudos were collected by George English and A.E. Foote in the 1890's and were sold to Eastern collectors and also to European collectors. Note the old label, showing how they compared these to the azurite roses, or "chessylite", more common from France at the time. Today, us Americans are trying to find them and buy them back, by and large! They are from the Rose or Copper Rose mine which is east of the Chino mine. This is a classic New Mexico locality. It isn’t hard to see that with a little cleaning (hard to imagine it wasn’t done before!) this will turn into a prettier specimen with an important provenance. However, given the old history with it, I haven't done the cleaning as I like the old-old look of the set. The blades of copper are amazingly sharp, and their appearance is diminished by the clay attached. In person, its more obvious how sharp they are underneath. NOTE - NOT A THUMBNAIL!

Sharp and highly lustrous complex crystal in the shape od a manta ray. It is contacted along the bottom, but the display side is perfect. Considering that most Azurites from this area are found in rosettes, this beauty is even more exceptional than it already was.

The pics say it all: this is a killer thumbnail. It is like a garden with blue azurite growing from sparkling soil. The longest crystal is mostly altered to malachite whereas the others are pristine azurite, which is quite an odd juxtaposition to explain

A manta-ray shaped crystal, this one with superb luster, good deep blue color, and sharp edges. It is a near-floater, perched atop a slender natural pedestal of rock matrix underneath! Unfortunately, there are three dings on the crystal that are visible to the eye, hence the low price. Still, though, a cute thumb.

Stunning pseudo and one of the best of these old classics that I have had – looks like someone just cast the copper in the form of an Azurite rose. It is that sharp and well-defined, with moderate luster and a rich chocolate-brown patina to it. Many of these fine pseudos were collected by George English and A.E. Foote in the 1890's and were sold to Eastern collectors and also to European collectors.  This one from the Rose Mine which is east of the Chino mine. This is a classic New Mexico locality, now gone.

A fine rosette of azurite having the good color and luster reminiscent of the rosettes that have come from the districts we are all familiar with, such as the copper mines of Arizona. An unusually fine example from China!

inCREDible! Words and pics cannot adequately convey how fantastic this specimen is and I rate it as hands-down one of the best azurite thumbs I have ever seen or handled at any price. Each and every sharp blade is perfect: superb luster, great form, and a deep azure blue color that is easily seen because the crystals have such a fantastic and unusual clarity to them. If it were Tsumeb, one could ask and get $1000...but a small bit of attached matrix on back gives it away as Moroccan. If this doesn’t get snapped up in the first 30 seconds of posting, I will be shocked.

Killer thumbnail example of the classic azurite rosettes found at Bisbee in the early 1900s! VERY fine, deep color!

This complete floater is a rosette of intensely colored, deep blue, satin luster, azurite crystals, to 2.5 cm individually. This is huge size and the crystals show remarkable individuality as well, for the find (early 1990s). The actual blue color is better in person. Formerly in the collection of Arizona collector Les Presmyk, who handled many of the specimens, this is clearly among the very tp pieces in the find and its price is quite fair, i think.

The truly neat thing about this specimen is that it can be viewed on either side, equally as well. On one side, a botryoidal crust of rich, blue, azurite is coated with a botryoidal crust of light green, chalcoalumite, a fairly rare, hydrous, copper, aluminum, sulfate. Here the chacoalumite spheres reach .8 cm across. On the back side is a vug with a crust of brown limonite upon which is emplaced a druse of sparkling, deep blue, spheres of azurite. Unusual, and very fine!

This specimen is remarkable for several reasons. The color is a wonderful aquamarine blue, from the cryptocrystalline core to the surface of the specimen. There was a secondary growth of azurite, in crystals to 2.5 cm across, which was later pseudomorphed by sparkling quartz druse. In spite of minor damage to the largest crystal, this piece is rare and exquisite.
