This austunite specimen is sparkling and translucent, just gorgeous when backlit. It is one of the more rich examples we have seen of the species, which tends not to form such rich aggregates.
ex. Jason New
This very rich specimen of austinite features huge, translucent balls of sparkling crystals, to 4 cm across, on gossan matrix. It is a significant specimen of the species showing an unusual thick and large concentration of austinite, which normally just occurs here as thin crusts. From the well known Mexico collection of Jason New, which I bought in 2010. Joe Budd photos
A gorgeous, evenly-colored crust of solid austinite, formed up robust radial sprays to 1 cm that are grown together like a mat underneath the sparkling surface. This is for my taste one of the prettiest of the austinites found, of this style, in finds of about 2008-2009. It is also the richest such find of austinite, i am aware of from this or other locales. Ojuela has an on and off history of producing world class examples of rare species, such as this - and such finds are usually not repeated. Joe Budd photos.
8.4 x 7.4 x 5.4 cm. No, this is not a mediocre specimen of adamite, but a specimen of AUSTINITE (Calcium Zinc Arsenate Hydroxide) on limonite matrix - a rarity in fine crystals such as these, from Mina Ojuela. These translucent green clusters measure to one centimeter and are superb for the species. One of them is partial, allowing you to see the radial acicular structure.
7.3 x 6.3 x 3.8 cm. Gemmy and lustrous, seafoam-green, cuprian austinite crystallized into rounded aggregates set on contrasting, bubbly goethite-covered limonite matrix from the Mina Ojuela, Mexico.
3.5 x 2 x 1 cm. Gemmy, translucent, pastel green crystals in a crazy freestanding cluster with xls to 9mm.
5.8 x 4.7 x 4.5 cm. Gemmy, translucent, pastel green crystals in individual aggregates, on starkly contrasting matrix.
7.6 x 7.2 x 2.2 cm. A very rich plate of translucent, thick, intergrown austinite completely covering the matrix. Minor baryte in association.
5.4 x 4.0 x 2.4 cm. Nice sharp isolated crystals of austinite. An unusual habit from the find.
7.1 x 6.6 x 3.0 cm. Extremely thick, gemmy austinite crystals in intergrown spherical aggregates make this a beautiful specimen, and a very rich one.
6.9 x 4.4 x 3.0 cm. A rich specimen with tons of crystallized austinite in radial aggregates, all translucent and sparkly.
5.8 x 4.5 x 2.6 cm. A gracefully curving "ribbon" of thick austinite crystals forms atop the matrix here. These crystals are elongated, to 1 cm long.
9.2 x 8.0 x 6.8 cm. The rich surface display is 6 x 5 cm across, and has individual "rice-grain"-shaped austinite crystals to 4 or 5 mm shooting out all sides.
9.1 x 7.0 x 7.0 cm. This is a large specimen with a thick and rich carpet of sparkling austinite, crystallized into rounded aggregates.
12.3 x 7.0 x 3.0 cm. Bubbly, gemmy, rice-grain-shaped austinite crystals here abound on matrix covered also with small adamite crystals. The small white barytes add additional accent.
