Arsentsumebite pseudo. after Mimetite - Tsumeb Mine, Namibia, Africa

An exceptionally rare and rich, very old-time specimen! When I got it in the Hansen collection labelled as a pyro (but never checked by analysis), it had me puzzled. Pyromorphite is not reported in crystalline form of any quality from Tsumeb and this would have been a miraculous piece. Further study has confirmed it is actually arsentsumebite pseudomorph after mimetite, which makes more sense mineralogically as well as in terms of the crystal form present (which wasn't hexagonal). The piece is exceedingly rich, then, for this very rare species. Despite a few broken crystals, it is also very showy and displayable. Specimens of this type were reported to have been found in the upper oxidation zone , and so it most likely dates to 75 years or more in age. Significant and rare! Jus tnot a pyro...

2.9 x 2.4 x 2.0 cm. Super sharp, tabular and pseudohexagonal, olive-green beaudantite crystals RICHLY line a well-placed vug on matrix along with botryoidal, dark green arsentsumebite. The specimen is beautifully crowned with a glassy, cyclic-twinned cerussite crystal. This is a VERY FINE display piece for these rare species and nicely accented by a cerussite "jewel".

3.6 x 3.9 x 3.1 cm. Rich, apple green, arsentsumebite, a rare lead copper-arsenate-sulfate, contrasts incredibly with a few crystals of highly lustrous, deep, royal blue azurite, to 1.0 cm across. This is a notable old specimen, rare today, showing a classic association from Tsumeb and only Tsumeb. Mostly these were found in the early days of Tsumeb, early 1900s. Ex. Charlie Key.

6.8 x 4.2 x 3.5 cm. An OLD-TIME, dramatic and showy combination specimen from the famous and now-closed Tsumeb Mine. Lustrous and sharp, midnight-blue azurite crystals to 7 mm RICHLY line an elongate vug in gossan matrix, which is beautifully lined with sparkly, drusy, apple-green arsentsumebite microcrystals. Tsumeb is the Type Locality for this ULTRA-RARE lead copper arsenate, which is RARE, even at Tsumeb. This is a RICH specimen of arsentsumebite. Definitely old, from the upper oxidized levels of this very historic mine. Ex Rob Smith Collection.

8.3 x 5.3 x 3.2 cm. A blue specimen with unusual platy azurite crystals to 1 cm richly covering the display face. It is associated with minor green Arsentsumebite which provides just a touch of accent and contrast and is a visually bright and showy specimen, not dark as are so many azurites. Ex. Willy Israel Collection.

4.2 x 3.1 x 1.5 cm. Arsentsumebite is one of the rare lead, copper mineral species for which Tsumeb is famous and is the Type Locality. This is a fine, very rich, two-sided combination specimen with lots of grass-green arsentsumebite, lustrous, contrasting azurite and a bit of lighter green bayldonite on one side. Old material, probably predating the 1920s.

2.5 x 1.9 x 1.6 cm. A beautiful "bowtie" of highly lustrous Azurite, with bright green Arsentsumebite adding eye-catching contrast. The blocky Azurites radiate in opposite directions, creating the bowtie effect. The luster is mirror-like, and the deep blue color shows excellent flashes of azure. A very aesthetic thumbnail with brilliant color contrast. From old workings in the first oxidation zone, probably prior to 1940. Ex. Charlie Key.
