Large hexagonal crystal from the type locality showing four generations of growth. The luster on the sides is excellent, and the perfect form makes this an attractive and desirable specimen. Unavoidable minor dings in just a few spots.

These attractive specimens made quite a splash in the mid 80's, and this is one of the better ones I have seen because it is symmetrical and unusually fat. The large single stalactite, along with the base, have good deep-orange color and lovely translucency under strong light. This would make a good addition for the carbonate collector, or someone with an appreciation for the aesthetic and unusual.

A very colorful and showy plate of bright lemon-yellow sulfur crystals, on matrix! Though there is some damage here and there, it is minor in context and does not detract much at all. The piece looks good from EITHER side, depending on personal tastes! For some reason his number on the specimen is blacked over, on the actual piece, so we had to guess at the real catalogue number. We think this is because it was erroneously labeled as #105 "Nicholsonite on Aragonite from Tsumeb" at one time (this number survives under the second coat of black paint on which he wrote his numbers on many pieces) and was perhaps recatalogued under another number that came off in the cleaning. Regardless, it is prominently seen in the photo of the lefthand case, in the middle of the second shelf up. You can see which side Carnegie liked!

A famous piece from early export of Russian minerals, sold in two portions that were found to fit together with a totally tight lock, though it is repaired to keep it so. Illustrated in old Min Record issue. Superb both horizontally and vertically. Totally pristine and undamaged! These crystals are razor sharp. They have intense green color, really unique in the context of all production from this area, and they have mesmerizing inclusiosn of white aragonite needles within. Overall, one of my favorite Dalnegorsk fluorites ever...well, one of my favorites, period, come to think of it. It is simply a mesmerizing piece of sculpture! I sold this in about 2007 and had the pleasure to get it back recently as that particular fluorite collection was sold (2011). During that time, it was in the noted worldwide fluorite collection of Gilles Emringer.

I must say that I have never seen a copper-rich aragonite specimen from Tsumeb or anywhere else (such as Bisbee) that is quite as good as this one for my tastes. When backlit, the core of this specimen glows a light blue-green color. The individual crystals of aragonite are acicular, lustrous and translucent and nearly colorless. The crystals reach 3.5 cm in length. Although several crystal tips are damaged, the glow from the center of the specimen overcomes any deficiencies and most are OK anyhow. This specimen definitely has a WOW factor to hol dits own visually with more glamorous species; and is most unusual amidst all the fancier Tsumeb species !

This is really an amazing pseudo. To find Copper in such sharp hexagonal habit, even knowing that it is a pseudo, still blows the mind.

A matrix of lustrous, white, twinned, doubly terminated aragonite crystals to 3 cm across, forms the backdrop for lemon yellow, flat lying, sulfur crystals which occur in the interstices between the aragonite crystals. This combination of colors gives this old specimen an interesting look. Note that this is the original aragonite here! IN MOST CASES with this association form this mine, the original aragonite has been replaced by alteration and is now calcite. Sulfur on this natrual aragonite is quite rare, in fact. This beautiful piece is the largest such I have seen for sale. BETTER IN PERSON!

This aesthetic cluster is shaped like a rosette with rich reddish-brown color and excellent luster. The longest crystal is over 1 cm though all are arranged around a central crystal that seems to run the 4 cm from tip to tip through the center.

This is a classical, pristine, doubly terminated aragonite crystal with the typical reddish –brown color for the locale. What really makes this specimen is the clearly defined, pseudo- hexagonal, cyclic twinning, evident on both terminations. Excellent and stereotypical example of this important and classic find!

From a deposit long since closed, I think this is an outstanding aragonite from a classic find of the early 1970s. On a crust of massive aragonite with minor sulfur are numerous colorless, twinned, lustrous, gemmy aragonite crystals up to 2.5 cm in length. The basal pinacoids (flat faces atop) are gemmier than the prism faces which can be opaque and chalky white in places, creating a shocking contrast . These are highly fluorescent

Just an aragonite?! With a spectacular purple hue and luster, this doubly terminated and twinned crystal originates from the type locality for aragonite and really stands out from all others I have seen. The pinacoidal faces do not have much color and appear to have been frosted but the frontal faces of the hexagonal barrel are lustrous and bright. The purple color rivals that of the fluorapatites from the Pulsifer Quarry in Maine! A few gemmy sidecar crystals are along for the ride. I know some people are looking at this thinking i am insane, but it really is THAT good and i paid for it, too..

This specimen hosts two superb, elongated, very well formed crystals to 7 cm of the rare aragonite varietal termed nicholsonite. The yellow color is due to high nickel content. This is not a valid species anymore, but is a valid subtype of aragonite, rich in both nickel and lead (tarnowitzite, has just the lead part). I have not seen a more aesthetic example of this rare material for sale! images/cards.gif images/bottom.gif

This is another super rare collector's stone. When is the last time that you can remember seeing a faceted stone of Aragonite? This mineral rarely comes in facet grade material, especially in gems this size. It's a superb, very very slightly included well cut gem with an Elongated Octagonal cut. These gems are very difficult to find these days as I’m told that the locality that produced these stones is long defunct.
