MD-200642 - Annabergite (Var: Magnesian Annabergite) - - Archived Km-3 Mine, Lavrion Mines, Lavrion (Laurion; Laurium), Lavrion District Mines, Lavrion (Laurion; Laurium) District, Attikí (Attica; Attika) Prefecture, Greece small cabinet, 6.9 x 5.1 x 2.3 cm.
6.9 x 5.1 x 2.3 cm. Cabrerite is the synonym for the rare magnesium-rich variety of annabergite. This fine, old-time specimen is from the old mines of Laurium, Greece and features a well-placed vug richly lined with gemmy and lustrous, green cabrerite microcrystals. From an older collection and accompanied by a faded Wards label. The collection this came out of was a museum stash dating to prior to WW I.
MD-20960 - Annabergite - - Archived Km-3 Mine, Lavrion Mines, Lavrion (Laurion; Laurium), Lavrion District Mines, Lavrion (Laurion; Laurium) District, Attikí (Attica; Attika) Prefecture, Greece miniature, 3.2 x 2.4 x 2.2 cm
Annabergite is the nickel analogue of Erythrite, and it is every bit as stunning in its own way. Typical for this locality, these crystals have a superb luster and an unparalleled bright mint-green color. However, they are unusually well-formed and extended on teh c-axis; and under a loupe are somewhat better than the "usual material" you see from here. Very few minerals have the eye-catching appeal of Annabergite, and these beautiful crystals are no exception. 3.2 x 2.4 x 2.2 cm
TUC10-39 - Annabergite with Cuprian Smithsonite - AUS$ 1659 SOLD Km-3 Mine, Laurium District, Attica Prefecture, Greece small cabinet, 8.3 x 5.4 x 4.4 cm
This is a MAJOR annabergite specimen with huge crystal clusters to nearly 1 cm, associated with translucent green cuprian smithsonite. Annabergite occurs at its best from this locality, though great specimens are few and far between, despite hundreds of years of collecting. For overall richness, crystal size, and exceptional crystal definition, this is an important and attractive specimen. I have not had a better one, in several decades of dealing in colorful European classics, for what its worth. All Content and Design ©1996-2010 The ArkenstoneBy-species Galleries | ||||||||||||
