Miniature, 3.5 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm Cordierite is one of those species condemned to exist in only ugly specimens of largely crude crystals. Here, however, from a locality I hadn't even heard of before, we have a wild exception to the trend! These robust crystals to 1.2 cm in size have a jet black color, waxy lustre, and excellent crystal form! They are embedded and partially excavated from anhydrite matrix, with golden specks of massive chalcopyrite to set off the crystals even more starkly..

6.4 x 4.5 x 3.2 cm. A sculptural and very fine combination specimen from the famous Upper New Street trap rock quarry of Paterson, New Jersey. The white "wing" and the white matrix back are albite pseudomorphing anhydrite crystals! The "body" is beautifully and richly covered with blocky, orange chabazite crystals and pearlescent, colorless heulandite crystals. Ex. George Feist Collection.

A very rare MATRIX Anhydrite specimen from Naica featuring a classic, powder blue color, sharp, lustrous prismatic Anhydrite crystal group measuring 5.0 cm on lustrous, rhombic, gemmy, light yellow color Calcite crystals. MD-172416 - Halite, Anhydrite - - Archived Poland small cabinet, 5.5 x 3.2 x 2.4 cm.
5.5 x 3.2 x 2.4 cm. An UNUSUAL, CLASSIC and showy specimen from one of the famous salt mines of Poland. White to gray anhydrite balls on matrix are clearly visible through the blocky, TV screen-like, water-clear, elongated halite cube! The anhydrite balls are richly and aesthetically scattered on the matrix, which very interestingly covers only a portion of the back of the halite cube. The matrix-less portion of the rock salt reveals how really clear the crystal is! The halite cube is essentially pristine. Ex. Dave and Emily Stoudt Collection.

MD-19676 - Anhydrite - - Archived Ischler Salzberg, Perneck, Bad Ischl, Upper Austria, Austria cabinet, 10 x 9 x 5 cm
An old, attractive specimen of peach-colored anhydrite collected from a noted find in 1965, and very rare for the locality. Very difficult to find today and this is a large specimen to boot. For the species, it’s a pretty significant piece. As pure color on the shelf, it aint bad either! 10 x 9 x 5 cm
MD-196856 - Anhydrite - - Archived Naica, Mun. de Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico cabinet, 13.8 x 4.8 x 2.8 cm.
13.8 x 4.8 x 2.8 cm. A superb spray of pearly, very faintly grey-blue anhydrite (anhydrous calcium sulfate) from Naica - known better for its gypsums (selenites) - which are a close cousin, hydrous calcium sulfate. Ex. Stoudt Collection.
MD-199471 - Anhydrite - - Archived Naica, Mun. de Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico small cabinet, 6.4 x 3.7 x 1.6 cm.
6.4 x 3.7 x 1.6 cm. Anhydrite (anhydrous calcium sulfate, CaSO4) is a very close cousin of gypsum - which is hydrous - CaSO4-2H20. Gypsum or "selenite" is of course the more famous of these cousins from Naica, but the locality has also produced very pretty anhydrite specimens, such as this "Chrysler Building" style specimen of pretty dove-grey. Ex. Stoudt Collection.

19.9 x 7.8 x 3.8 cm. A large, elegant "fan" of very light dove-grey anhydrite crystals, with an amazing sparkling, "sugar" luster on its surface that unfortunately the camera could not pick up. Anhydrite (calcium sulfate) is a close cousin to the famous selenites from this locality (hydrated calcium sulfate). This large fan is complete on the bottom, with just a couple of little pocket contacts on top. Very elegant example of this old classic. Ex.
