A very rare garnet specimen from a small find in the 1980s that produced these waxy-lustered, red andradites in record size crystals for the mine. The large crystal here is 1.2 cm and the form is SHARP! For the location, these remain unequaled to my knowledge and are certainly rarely seen for sale. This is the first I have had in a long time. 6.3 x 4.2 x 3.0 cm
Superb, exceptionally lustrous Gaudefroyite crystals to 1.5 cm festoon this matrix of bright sparkling garnet. This is a very rich specimen at, I think, a very cheap price as the pics do not do it justice for its significance and aesthetics! 6.8 x 5.7 x 3.2 cm
5.0 x 3.7 x 2.8 cm. GEM crystals of this rare garnet varietal to 1 cm, though with a small amount of edge damage to the major crystal (not visible except up close). Old material now hard to get. Ex. Charlie Key Collection.
5.4 x 4.1 x 3.1 cm. Two sharp, gemmy and lustrous, leaf-green andradite variety demantoid garnet crystals to 6 mm attractively set in contrasting calc-silicate matrix from recent finds at Tubussis Farm 22 near the Erongo Mountains of Namibia. The large, gem crystal is pristine and the lightly bruised other garnet crystal is certainly not a detraction. Highly representative of the species and locality.
6.0 x 4.1 x 3.8 cm. In a shallow pocket is a group of crystals of the extremely rare demantoid varietal of garnet, measuring to 0.5 cm and very gemmy, with light pastel green color and fine luster.
5.2 x 3.9 x 2.2 cm. Extremely lustrous and sparkly, gemmy, deep wine-red andradite garnets richly covering the matrix, with accenting pale bementite. Specimens from the Manganese Fields of South Africa carry a special appeal for many collectors; this one came out of the collection of David Ellis.
5 x 4 x 3.2 cm. Green demantoid garnets are EXCEEDINGLY rare, in fact one of the rarest of the gem crystals - and they are particularly uncommon in matrix specimens. This is a fine crystal of 10mm (one cm), with some nearby crystal embedded in matrix.
7.4 x 5.7 x 3.4 cm. A cluster of California garnets, to 1 cm, with a luster so fine they almost look wet! They have good transparency, and are a deep brandy to coffee color.
7.2 x 4.7 x 3.3 cm. BRILLIANTLY gemmy, deep cherry-red andradite garnet crystals are aesthetically set on quartz-rich matrix on this EXCELLENT Pakistan specimen. The large andradite is 2.4 cm, which is BIG for the locality and species. The large andradite is so gemmy, that it has a fire opal-like quality to it; seeing the matrix beneath it. The row of smaller andradites just below the big one is particularly attractive. VERY FEW andradites of this quality have come from this UNCOMMON Pakistan locality. This super piece is accompanied by two older dealer labels, one of which is from Herb Obodda, source of many fine Pakistan minerals.
8.8 x 7.0 x 5.8 cm. Gemmy and lustrous, sea-green andradite garnet crystals to 7 mm are aesthetically set in vug in the front of matrix on this showy and classic Canadian specimen from Black Lake, Quebec. Hidden to side of the main vug is a deep "cave" lined with more andradites! The base has been sawed to enhance display. Ex. George Elling Collection.
6.2 x 4.5 x 4 cm. A killer specimen of California garnet out of the collection of Bill Larson. These are BIG, GLOSSY crystals, measuring to 2.5 cm across. They have the characteristic deep brownish-red color, with some flashes of red just under the surface.
1.1 x 0.6 x 0.6 cm. Demantoid garnets are rare from anywhere. This is an extraordinarily uncommon MEXICAN demantoid - a complete one with textbook form atop a compound crystal. Though it certainly would not win any awards for size or clarity, it is the rarity as a locality specimen that makes it special.
3.5 x 2.6 x 2.1 cm. Sharp gemmy garnet, about 1.5 cm, totally complete! The color is a weird shifting hue between yellow and green. Rare in such gemminess and with such sharp form, in this size, on matrix. Ex. Charlie Key.
6.9 x 5.8 x 3.8 cm. An exceptional plate of gaudefroyite, a rare manganese mineral found at its best only in these Kalahari mines, perched on sparkling andradite garnet druse. Ex. Charlie Key.
11.3 x 5.2 x 4.4 cm. A bizarre specimen of odd greenish andradite, probably demantoid, garnets on matrix. Ex. Charlie Key.
