You could not ask for a more bright and metallic hematite than these crystals, with their mirror lustre and stunning contrast to the druses of andradite garnet around them! This is an exceptional, large specimen from finds in the 1980s, now long gone from the market. 10 x 6.8 x 5.0 cm
11 x 9 x 4.5 cm. Fine large plate of deep green, flat-lying, and highly lustrous Andradite Garnets. The largest is 1.5 cm on edge.
5 x 4.5 x 3 cm. Set of three Demantoid Garnets that range in size from .4 - 1.2 cm. Each is gemmy and has an excellent luster. The two smaller crystals are light green in color, while the largest has an excellent medium green color that simply glows when light is passed through the gemmy crystal.
11.2 x 6.0 x 4.9 cm. A rare matrix specimen of these important demantoid garnets from southern Namibia, featuring sharp crystals to 2 cm on matrix. Glassy lustre!
27 x 22 x 11 cm. Museum size and museum quality. Magnificent and rare large (read, HUGE) plate of the extremely rare manganese borate, Gaudefroyite. I have never seen such a large specimen with solid coverage as this. Quality crystals are rare, but this specimen is completely covered by lustrous tabular crystals that are black to deep rust in color. Among the thousand crystals, there are dozens upon dozens that range .5-1 cm in length, many in very attractive radial sprays. Incredible. Associated with the Gaudefroyite are a few sharp, zoned barytes and hundreds of lovely microcrystallized andradite garnets that occur in several groupings, adding both color and contrast to the piece. Amazing and aesthetic, this old piece is a classic.
4.5 x 4.2 x 2.0 cm. These Andradites are some of the most easily recognizable of any Garnet specimens around. Their distinctive brownish-green or olive green color and semi metallic luster are a dead giveaway. This specimen is a very fine display piece of this famous material from Stanley Butte. It features many sharp, highly lustrous dodecahedra of Andradite with virtually no damage to any of the main crystals, the largest of which measures 8 mm. A great cluster of these well known Garnets.
10.0 x 7.7 x 3.4 cm. When you hear San Benito County, you think of two things: benitoite and neptunite. But once in awhile, the locality produced these fine garnets - with a super-shiny, almost metallic looking luster and razor sharpness. These measure to 0.8 cm, and are attractively isolated on the matrix. Ex. Elling Collection - an uncommon locality piece!
1.1 x 1.1 x 0.9 cm. This is a complete floater crystal of the very rare chrome-green andradite variety of garnet, from Afghanistan. These andradites are extremely sought-after by collector due to their rarity and deep green color. Under strong light, you can see that it is GEMMY in the interior! The faces are quite sharp, and the crystal shows textbook form. Weighs 15 carats.
3.6 x 3.4 x 1.2 cm. The tetragonal pyramids, .5 cm on edge, are razor-sharp and super-lustrous. One of the truly great things about the specimen is that pyramids retain their individuality. They are not intergrown like you see on many Hausmannites. This is an exceptional specimen, not only for the quality of the Hausmannite crystals but the fine combination that you find it in.
10.7 x 5.8 x 4.5 cm. Sitting on a bed of hundreds, if not thousands, of quartz crystals, the dozens upon dozens of Demantoids all have good color and are gemmy. The largest, which is about 1.2 cm, is quite gemmy and is composed of compound crystals.
9.6 x 8 x 2.2 cm. The Gaudefroyites are sharp, lustrous, and the needles reach up to about .8 cm in length. The Barytes, though partially cleaved, add brightness and contrast, while the ribbon of Andradites seal the deal.
7.3 x 4.8 x 3.0 cm. An EXCELLENT specimen of sparkly, dark cherry-red andradite garnet crystals preferentially coating splendent hematite crystals and nicely accented by a glassy, colorless, complex calcite crystal from the famous Wessels Mine of South Africa.
8.2 x 3.7 x 3.7 cm. Superb grouping of highly lustrous Melanites densely populating the matrix. The crystals are jet-black, which contrast nicely with the tan color below. The largest crystal is 1.1 cm across, which is pretty astounding for this variety. With such incredible luster, and the crystals being in such good condition, this surely must qualify a great "black" mineral! Ex. Steve Smale Collection.
4.2 x 3.1 x 2.9 cm. A large, finely-formed, pseudo-scalenohedral crystal of hematite from the famous Wessels Mine. The crystal is complete, with natural contact and mineral attachment on the back side. It is decorated with little wind-colored andradite garnets. Fine, shiny-metallic face, very sharp! Circa 1980s.
8.1 x 5.3 x 3.6 cm. Green demantoid garnets are super-rare and sought-after. This is a chunk of matrix rich with massed microcrystals of demantoid, and with, at one end, some more sizeable crystals - the largest measuring 0.5 cm.
