Emplaced on matrix are clusters of glassy and gemmy, cognac-colored crystals of andradite var. topazolite, to 1 cm across. They are beautifully lustrous and glassy, and arranged like flowers in the middle of the metamorphosed limestone matrix, now transformed into massive white garnet.
A large thumbnail, perfect and balanced! Sitting perfectly on a matrix of metasomatized (metamorphosed from limestone) garnet, is a glassy and gemmy, jewel-like, richly green, demantoid crystal measuring 1.4 cm in length. It is complete ALL AROUND and has excellent lustre and color to it! Small parts of several back faces show unusual (for garnet) incipient hoppered growth patterning. Overall, an outstanding, fullsized thumbnail specimen! There are many small specimens from the find, yes; but few with such quality and balance overall to make them more than just a small sample, and rather a great thumbnail specimen.
Two, discrete, glassy and gemmy, olive-green crystals of demantoid, to 1 cm , are exquisitely perched on a matrix of metasomatized garnet. The small crystals you see, I believe are little andradites in association. Elegant and fine representative example!
This is a plate of intergrown, glassy and gemmy, green to olive-green demantoid crystals. In size they reach to 1.1 cm. The matrix is limestone metasomatized to garnet. Overall this is a brilliantly sparkling, bright, and showy specimen with a lot of color appeal and flash to it! The crystals are super bright and gemmy
This little beauty features 4 discrete, glassy and gemmy, green, demantoid crystals, aesthetically emplaced on a massive garnet matrix. When crystals are isolated from each other, like this, the maximum beauty of each is enhanced to my eye. These are TOTAL GEMS!!! They are transparent, not just gemmy, and have gorgeous demantoid green color. Trimmed a little bit, this would also be a killer thumbnail specimen.
One of our favorites! This is like a cluster of green jewels, all linked together. It is a floater specimen where the crystals are on a strip of matrix, that is also crystallized around the back. The display face is covered with a continuous, sparkling cluster of glassy and gemmy, light emerald-colored demantoid crystals, to 1.2 cm. They have sharp form, good lustre, an dgood color...but the overall aesthetics of this is more, and it makes for a striking miniature.
Aesthetically nestled in a vug of garnet matrix are a few, discrete, nearly limpid jewel-like crystals of the highest gemminess and brightness: glassy and gemmy, richly green demantoid crystals, to 6 mm. While not the biggest crystals, this is a stunning example representing the best quality of this find in the garnets !
On a thin septae of matrix,is a cluster of equant, glassy and gemmy, olive-green colored demantoid, in crystals to 1 cm. VERY gemmy, very bright, this robust thumbnail specimen has a high quality and sits nicely. It has many facets reflecting light, so shows off more nicely than you might expect at first.
Sugary matrix of garnet is the host for a continuous coating of glassy and gemmy, green, demantoid crystals, topped by a 1.6-cm crystal. The largest crystal is aprticularly sharp, though it has a slight, small contact atop. Overall brilliantly sparkling, this is a great representative specimen from the find without breaking the bank.
Perched high on its matrix of sedimentary rock, which has been metasomatized (metamorphosed) to a slightly yellowish, microcrystallized garnet, is a cluster of glassy and gemmy, light emerald-green demantoids, to nearly 1 cm across. Many of the equant crystals also appear to be doubly terminated. Nice aesthetics, as they hang freestanding off the side of the matrix! Interestingly, the matrix reminds me of the shape of Texas, with the garnets shooting off to the top...THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL, larger specimen with an aesthetic crystal grouping overall, for the price
A ribbon effect of heavily striated, glassy and gemmy, crystals of olive-green to cognac-colored topazolite are emplaced on a metasomatized garnet matrix (limestone metamorphosed to garnet) . The crystals reach 1.5 cm across, although the huge crystal on the far left, which initially looks like it has damage, is actually crystallized in a weird manner and is nearly an inch across. This specimen is a dramatic, distinctive and major example of this rare garnet gem species!
Aesthetically nestled in vugs in the massive garnet matrix are equant, glassy and gemmy, light green demantoid crystals, to 1 cm across. There are 4 major crystals and many minor, with the large ones really popping out 3-dimensionally. The quality is outstanding - they are deeply colored, gemmy, and lustrous. However the matrix could probably use some trimming to make it more aesthetic, I admit...making it a bargain, "as is" if you like big isolated crystals on display-sized specimens. (and if it doesn't sell, there IS a miniature in here that is worth more than prepped, with a little risk in the trim job).
Perched high on contrasting white matrix, are discrete crystals of glassy and gemmy, beautiful green demantoid. The equant crystals reach 1.5 cm across and most are superbly isolated, showing all faces. This is one of the better matrix specimens for the size and price range, with top , very green color and good crystal size. There is no damage, and all crystals are very 3-dimensional! The contrast to the stark white matrix is very appealing and dramatic on this specimen. The matrix is limestone, metamorphosed geologically to garnet (yes: garnet on garnet...)
Nestled on a thin matrix of massive garnet is a continuous, flowing cluster of flat-lying , extraordinarily glassy and gemmy, olive-green demantoid crystals, to 1.5 cm across. The two largest crystals also exhibit clear signs of hopper growrth, rare in members of the garnet family. This is a splendid example from this find with VERY rich coverage, and in superb condition. It displays both vertically and horizontally to equal effect. In person, it sends out flashes from the dozens of crystals and hundreds of faces present (many quite large, recall). This much topazolite on one piece, is an extreme rarity by previous standards for the species, as well
Unusually isolated and discrete, equant, crystals of transparent greass-green demantoid, to 1 cm across, are perched high on a contrasting massive garnet matrix (the matrix having once been limestone, now itself metamorphosed to garnet). These crystals are sharp, and gemmy, though have medium lustre. They are so sharply formed , though, that they look carved in their textbook symmetries. And, overall, this is a great example from the finds for the price and size rage, trading a little bit on lustre to get the quality of form and isolation aesthetics.
