24edd31b - Hematite (Twinned crystals) with Andradite Garnet - $ 9500 SOLD Wessels Mine, Kalahari Manganese Fields, South Africa cabinet, 10 x 6.8 x 5.0 cm ex. Dr. Edward David
You could not ask for a more bright and metallic hematite than these crystals, with their mirror lustre and stunning contrast to the druses of andradite garnet around them! This is an exceptional, large specimen from finds in the 1980s, now long gone from the market. Even small examples of these mirror hematites with garnet go for over $1000, and this is a rare cabinet specimen of the same style. Comes with custom base.

CKTSR-36 - COLUMNAR HEMATITE on ANDRADITE - SOLD Wessels Mine, Kalahari Manganese Fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa cabinet, 10.5 x 7.5 x 5.5 cm ex. Charlie Key
I have simply NEVER seen such hematite crystals from anywhere! Charlie says he obtained the two best of a small pocket, found some time ago. This one features a spray of upright columnar crystals to 6 cm leaping off from andradite garnet matrix! No damage, and complete all around - it is a magnificent specimen period and a truly unprecedented hematite about which I cannot rave enough. I know that Charlie considered it one of the top pieces in the collection. Comes with custom lucite display base.
GEM11-12 - Demantoid Garnet (new find) - $ 995 Antetezambato, Ambanja District, Antsiranana Province, Madagascar thumbnail, 12 x 9 mm; 2.03 cts
From the cherry-picked collection assembled during several years of excavation by Dr. Federico Pezzota, discoverer of Pezzotaite and the man who handled the most of these demantoids as well, we are proud and privileged to offer this unique lot of gems cut from a modern day classic find : world-class demantoids from Madagascar. These have a slightly higher brilliance and dispersion than Russian demantoids, though slightly less green intensity. They are also, of cours,e a fraction of the price of the traditional Russian material which has been selling regularly for several thousand $$ per carat. Top quality demantoid crystals from the find lend themselves well for rough-and-cut arrays, so these gems are perfect complements to any mineral collection. Of course, the rarity and quality of these stones also mark them as excellent picks for investment or jewelry. This brilliant modified trilliant is one the largest of the lot. It is eye-clean (though the super high resolution photo picks up what we would see under a loupe, slight feathers). The cut is very well done, bright and gorgeous in all respects!
GEM11-13 - Demantoid Garnet (new find) - $ 450 Antetezambato, Ambanja District, Antsiranana Province, Madagascar thumbnail, 6 x 6 x 6 mm; 1.50 cts

It is eye-clean (though the super high resolution photo picks up what we would see under a loupe, slight feathers). A brilliant modified cushion cut of nice size and excellent, appealing symmetry. Top quality in a cut stone of this type. The cut is very well done, bright and gorgeous in all respects!
GEM11-14 - Demantoid Garnet (new find) - $ 250 Antetezambato, Ambanja District, Antsiranana Province, Madagascar thumbnail, 6 x 4 mm; 1.23 cts
Small , but bright and impressive. This round brilliant would make a stunning ring or pendant stone. Since a Russian demantoid of this brightness and size might cost over $1000, this is very affordable for both the wearable use. or for a collector; and it looks great next to a natural demantoid crystal. Eye clean though with feathers on a loupe (or with the high resolution camera used here). GEM11-15 - Demantoid Garnet (new find) - $ 560 Antetezambato, Ambanja District, Antsiranana Province, Madagascar thumbnail, 6 x 6 x 5 mm; 1.88 cts
A larger modified square cut (cushion cut) that is eye-clean, bright and very showy. The color on this one stone is the most apple-green (with some yellow) of any here, a very distinct shade from Russian demantoid and from others here. It stands out dramatically for this reason, even if the color is technically atypical. There were few top quaity stones above 1.5 carats -- and this gem approaches the two-carat mark! A sweet stone that looks even nicer in person. GEM11-16 - Demantoid Garnet (new find) - $ 200 SOLD Antetezambato, Ambanja District, Antsiranana Province, Madagascar thumbnail, 5 x 5 x 3 mm; 1.05 cts
A nearly exact one-carat beauty. These brilliant modified cushion cuts are exceptionally bright under nearly all lighting conditions, and the color saturation is wonderful even in smaller stones. This size is perfect for any jewelry use, and they look great in a display case. It is also very cost affordable compared to 1 carat Russian stones. GEM11-17 - Demantoid Garnet (new find) - $ 1260 Antetezambato, Ambanja District, Antsiranana Province, Madagascar thumbnail, 8 x 5 mm; 2.26 cts
There are two round brilliant cuts we have to offer, and these sexy looking gems are among our favorites in the array. The nature of the material gave best yield with other cuts, and few rounds were made in the attempt to maximize yields from the top percentile of the cherrypicked rough over the last 2 seasons. This is the second largest stone, and this quality is exceedingly rare in this size. The cut is top rate, and the rich (but not overly dark) color makes this gem "pop" with life. It compares favorably to Russian demantoid which has been priced at over double or triple the amount. In person it is eye clean, but the high resolution photo finds inclusions the human eye misses except with a loupe, and has magnified them. It is an attention-grabber , certainly, as a wearable gem or in a rough and cut collection! GEM11-18 - Demantoid Garnet (new find) - $ 525 SOLD Antetezambato, Ambanja District, Antsiranana Province, Madagascar thumbnail, 7 x 5 mm; 1.70 cts
This knockout is our other round brilliant, and it is also of good size for demantoid vis a vis other locales. Again, photos don't truly do these stones justice because the camera we use (our high en dmineral camera) picks up flaws that the human eye misses in looking at "eye clean" stones. This is, in person, super bright, well cut and eye-clean. GEM11-19 - Demantoid Garnet (new find) - $ 1450 Antetezambato, Ambanja District, Antsiranana Province, Madagascar thumbnail, 8 x 5 mm; 2.10 cts
A spectacular trilliant cut gem. For my taste, the best in this lot, if not the biggest. The size is rare for this quality, and it is simply a very impressive stone in person. Trilliants look especially nice in rough-and-cut displays due to their pleasing symmetry and overall presence. But this was hard to photograph for some reason, and in person this stone will be even better. The cut is very well done, bright and gorgeous in all respects! GEM11-20 - Demantoid Garnet (new find) - $ 1350 Antetezambato, Ambanja District, Antsiranana Province, Madagascar thumbnail, 8 x 8 x 5 mm; 2.47 cts
This "modified trilliant" brilliant is an important gem. It is the largest type of this quality from the stash that I was shown at Munich; and it is perfect for a display, investment or jewelry. Bright and nearly eye-clean (the camera picks up more than the eye does), and we can't emphasize enough the wonderful, almost neon-like brightness and color. Choice stone for the connoisseur. GEM11-26 - Demantoid Garnet - $ 8250 Ural Mountains, Russia thumbnail, 8.27 x 6.81 x 5.71 mm; 2.67 cts
Classic location for the classic material of this gem species ! This is a very respectably size example of demantoid in a brilliant oval cut. It's a handsome stone that is highly desirable for its "horsetail inclusion" which both prove the species and the natural state of the stone. The color saturation is deeper than the new finds of Madagascar material we premiere above, but then again the price for these rarities has always been high due to market demand as they are considered to be "the best". Every gem connoisseur should have a representaive example, and this one is a beauty that is big enough to be investible and large and sturdy enough to be wearable as well.
gem7-22B - Andradite Garnet - $ 950 SOLD Rio Seco, Quebrada de Cordoba, Ica, Peru cabinet, 11.2 x 8.0 x 3.6 cm
A really neat locality garnet specimen, with 1 cm crystals completely covering this matrix plate. I have not seen before so large and rich a plate from Peru.
HECK-236 - Andradite Garnet - $ 600 SOLD Naica Mine, Chihuahua, Mexico small cabinet, 9.0 x 5.2 x 3.3 cm ex. David Stoudt
Garnet is rare for Naica, and there seem to have been few fine specimens that are primarily garnet. I have not seen many, in any case. This piece shows off fine upright crystal clusters, to 2.8 cm in length, of lustrous, shimmering olive-green andradite garnet. A few, small, colorless calcite crystals are present deep in the crevasse of garnet here. It is a beautiful specimen and a Naica rarity. Sawed on the back to trim it out, in olden times, this was from the Consie Prince collection (Houston, Texas), then the Dave Stoudt collection.
