This is a VERY LARGE, PRISTINE, SUPER GEM crystal of aquamarine, jutting up dramatically from the matrix! The crystal measures almost 2 inches or 4.5 cm in height, and a substantial 2 cm across. It is absolutely gemmy, with a frosty phantom starting about one centimeter down! The termination is perfect. YOU CAN LOOK RIGHT THROUGH IT. If you look very closely as with any specimen, and I mean with a magnifying glass, you can see a couple of micro-dings - but this crystal is basically in pristine condition. This superb specimen can be easily trimmed into a small cab if you prefer. 14.1 x 10.0 x 7.3cm
A SUPERB, pristine, 5.3 cm, GEM, pink morganite crystal jauntitly perched upright on dark green tourmaline-coated, bladed albite matrix from the famous 1973 find at the Corrego do Urucum pegmatite in Brazil. The C-axis side faces are gem-clear on both sides, and the other crystal faces are frosted. Corrego do Urucum morganites remain one of the most sought-after world-wide morganites. Ex Ed Ruggiero Collection. 8.7 x 8.2 x 6.3 cm
Talk about interesting mineralogy and the odd way things form in the ground! This specimen represents some of the best quirks found in the mineral kingdom. Three elbaite crystals grew separately in a pegmatite pocket. At a later time, a fine grained cleavelandite was deposited over and between the elbaite crystals, essentially hiding their terminations. Much later, some intrepid soul decided to split the cleavelandite ball; and lo and behold, exposed a lustrous, gemmy, rich pink, rubellite crystal, which measures about 3 x 3 x 3 cm in size. From underneath you can see there are two smaller rubellites adjacent, still enclosed. I was tempted to excavate them and thus have a rare matrix Cruzeiro cluster, but preserving this unique pop-on cast was too gimmicky a trick to ruin by trimming the tourmalines out. Also exposed was a negative cast of the elbaite in the cleavelandite. Whoever acquires this wonderful oddity of nature has, if they choose it, the opportunity to expose the other elbaite terminations. It is REALLY interesting and actually also a darned good tourmaline in and of its own. 8 x 6.3 x 4.7, 7.3 x 5.5 x 2.4 cm
This specimen brings together two of the rarer members of a complex pegmatite association of minerals. A navy blue crystal core of elbaite var, indicolite morphed into a city scape of pastel blue, translucent, pyramidal, terminations. Flanking the indicolite is an acicular spray of snow white albite and a complex crystal of very lustrous, golden-brown, stibiotantalite that even emits red highlights, The indicolite measures 3.0 cm in length and the stibiotantalite is 2.5 cm across. This is truly, a fine and rare combo specimen. 4.3 x 6.4 x 2.5 cm
A showy and important CABINET combination piece from the 2003 find at the Cryo-Genie Mine of two indicolite tourmalines to 4.3 cm with glassy, translucent, smoky quartz crystals, purple lepidolite and milky-white cleavelandite. The upper portion of the tourmalines are very gemmy and lustrous and both have matte-finish terminations. Pegmatite pocket tectonics often cause disruption of the contents and thus some breaks in situ, in San Diego in particular. This piece has been expertly repaired once in the midpoint of the larger tourmaline but this is on the backside and you cannot see the line from the display face. this remains important because it is one of few matrix gemmy tourmaline specimens from the mine, and the tourmalines are quite showy as they peek above the matrix to the front. There is minor edge damage to one of the smokies - certainly does not detract from this very showy piece. The base and back have been sawed to enhance display so it sits nicely, just so. This is a VERY RARE San Diego specimen from a short-lived mine! Ex Chris Korpi Collection 12.0 x 8.0 x 7.0 cm
An EXCELLENT and showy Cryo-Genie Mine CABINET combination piece from teh Chris Korpi Collection. It features a large and glassy, 4.0 cm colorless beryl crystal nicely set in albite matrix with lustrous, smoky quartz crystals and gemmy, polychrome, pencil tourmalines to 2.0 cm. The beryl crystal was tested as cesium-rich, I am told by Korpi. The bit of edgewear on the beryl corner is certainly not detracting too much visually, but there is a small cleaved area up there on the top corner of the crysatl. It is VERY gemmy and bright, and the contrast to matrix really highlights the colorlessness of the beryl. For the mine, this is absolutely superb in quality. 10.3 x 8.4 x 6.8 cm
A showy and excellent specimen of lustrous, micro crystals of gold on snow-white albite and quartz matrix from the Eldorado Mine of the famous Gympie Region of Queensland, Australia. 2.3 x 1.8 x 1.5 cm
A BEAUTIFUL and STRIKING CABINET specimen of three, pristine, lustrous, gray muscovite books superbly set in milky-white albite matrix. The contrasting directions of the vertical, wedge-shaped mica books really add pazzazz to this fine piece. This choice specimen hails from the famous Pack Rat Mine of San Diego County, California. Ex Chuck Houser Collection. 12.0 x 9.0 x 7.5 cm
This specimen is just SO dramatic and aesthetic in person! The smoky quartz crystal is a GEMMMY and extremely sharp chisel-shape, complete all around and beautifully terminated, measuring a whopping 9.5 cm in each direction! It is set off wonderfully by a cluster of muscovite and snowy albite. The pics do not do it justice -- it really is breathtaking smoky specimen! 12.5 x 10 x 7.5 cm
A BEAUTIFUL, pristine, gemmy and lustrous, bi-colored, watermelon-pink and green tourmaline crystal cluster with a "cityscape" termination and nicely placed white cleavelandite from the famous Himalaya Mine of California. 4.4 x 2.1 x 1.7 cm
A BEAUTIFUL and AESTHETIC combination specimen from Pakistan of a lustrous, pristine, 3.6 cm, dark green tourmaline crystal nicely attached to the side of a pearlescent, lustrous muscovite mica book. Blades of cleavelandite are attached to the tourmaline and a water-clear quartz crystal is attached to the lower left side of the mica book. A gemmy, green area lies below the frosted, pinacoid termination of the tourmaline. 6.1 x 5.3 x 3.0 cm
A STRIKING and BEAUTIFUL Pederneira Mine specimen of three, gemmy and lustrous, green to blue-green tourmaline crystals to 4.2 cm on a lustrous, translucent, tabular, gray quartz crystal on a matrix of snow-white, tourmalinte-covered albite. The two large tourmalines are doubly terminated and PRISTINE. A very showy piece. 9.8 x 6.6 x 6.2 cm
This is a MAJOR specimen which Ed purchased directly out of a prominent California collection years ago. It has a morganite of the quality and brightness to rival Afghani material coming out today, although these are distinct upon close inspection. Few pockets of the San Diego material have the sheer COLOR and thus the impact of this specimen and its ilk from this one unique pocket (circa 1960s), where they formed embedded in this thick albite matrix. I have seen only 3 specimens from this pocket over the years, and all have the same brightness and color that make them, to my eyes, the top San Diego morganite find to date. This crystal is huge, measuring in at about 3 x 3 inches. It is so gemmy you can look into it and through most of it to the underlaying matrix blades. The placement of the crystal is such that it shows off both the sharp hexagonal form (without modifications to skew the sharp natural symmetry, as with so many other Stewart morganites) AND the gemminess of the crystal itself. The crystal is actually complete on the backside, and doubly-terminated - the back is exposed and sticking out the other side of the matrix! This allows even more light to transmit through the crystal itself, making it "glow" nicely in a showcase. This specimen came from Ed at about twice the size and was artfully trimmed down . 13 x 12 x 9.4 cm
A BEAUTIFUL specimen of VERY GEMMY, striated, red-orange spessartine garnet crystals to 1.0 cm aesthetically set on contrasting white albite from recent finds at Tongbei, China. A few scattered quartz crystals add a nice accent. 6.2 x 6.0 x 3.7 cm
An EXCELLENT, AESTHETIC and PRISTINE Stak Nala, Pakistan tourmaline specimen consisting of two, lustrous, doubly terminated, dark green tourmaline crystals encased in bladed cleavelandite. The pyramidal terminations grade from a pleasing, gemmy, grass-green to yellow at the terminations. ALL of these came out in the mid-1980s, with no more since.
