A gorgeous combination specimen featuring a lilac-pink GEM kunzite crystal, measuring 5 x 2.5 x 1 cm in size, rising majestically from a matrix of the snowiest white blades of Cleavelandite you've ever seen. Aside from the fact that the kunzite is about the most gorgeous rich color you could ask for, the contrast is simply striking and it is more dramatic in person. 12.9 x 10.5 x 5.3 cm
This specimen features a superb, water-clear gem crystal , as i think is conveyed in the pics quite nicely. It is over 1 cm thick and it has a deeper-than-usual blue color to it despite the clarity (which usually dampes color). Note also the perfect, complexly bevelled termination! This crystal is perched upon a cluster of albite, the stark white of which enhances the aqua-blue color and makes this a very special piece. it is SO hard to find a truly GREAT aqua-matrix miniature. Mostly, teh killers are large specimens and priced highly of necessity, as well. This is one of the most striking aquas for its size, though, that I have ever seen. 5.4 x 3.6 x 3 cm
A strikingly impressive tourmaline specimen, featuring a LARGE, thick (4 cm across the termination!) crystal of deep teal blue, which lets the light in for the top half-centimeter to show off its color. It is dark unless strongly lit, because of the thickness of the crystal; but when backlit is just wonderful (as shown)! A cluster of albite crystals forms a perfect setting for the tourmaline. 5.5 x 4.5 x 3 cm
6.8 x 5.6 x 3.0 cm. A 3.3 cm, striated, glassy and lustrous smoky quartz crystal is set on a plate of pearlescent, parallel-growth bands of echelon cleavelandite blades from recent finds in the Andes Mountains of Argentina.
11.1 x 6.8 x 7.2 cm. A classic and fine cabinet siderite specimen from the Poudrette Quarry at Mt. St-Hilaire. Two large, lustrous, yellowish-brown siderite rhombs are set on matrix covered with small albite crystals. The large rhomb is 5.5 cm on the diagonal. Both rhombs are complete-all-around. These are large siderite crystals for the locale. Ex. James Zigras Collection.
4.7 x 3.8 x 3.6 cm. This solid albite specimen has a sugary sprinkle on top of jewel-like, transparent, red-orange crystals of the rare oxide Microlite. These crystals are of excellent quality, despite their small size.
3.6 x 1.9 x 1.7 cm. A beautiful, totally gem, champagne-colored topaz. The crystal has a classic topaz termination with modified faces and is partially wreathed in bladed, white cleavelandite. This pristine gem crystal is from the Shigar Valley of Pakistan. A classic Pakistan topaz.
Recently, some very attractive 3 – 4 cm “balls” of lepidolite with the general appearance of the lepidolite on this specimen have come from Brazil. But this is the first I have EVER seen on matrix – and a fine matrix of snowy Albite blades, at that! The lepidolites, with a pleasing lavender color, are isolated on the matrix, and have a brilliant luster across their curved surfaces. Lepidolite is typically an “accent” mineral, but here is a rare specimen where it is really the star! I know its not the most glamorous species, but to me that makes such a piece all the more desirable. 8.5 x 5.5 x 5 cm
4.9 x 2.7 x 2.3 cm. A wonderful "Alpine Type" specimen consisting of sharp, lustrous, gem/gemmy, deep green prismatic Diopside crystals associated with a small "cluster" of virtually colorless, gemmy Prehnite crystals and small, whitish, blocky Albite on matrix. This specimen came to Rich Kosnar about twelve years ago. A good reference association specimen from one of the premier "cleft" localities in Pakistan. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.
12.7 x 7.7 x 7.5 cm. This is a large pocket piece of feldspar and quartz, with attached cleavelandite as well, that is 760 grams. It features a well-terminated 4.5 cm crystal in the middle of the specimen. The smoky quartz adds a very nice accent, as they sit behind the tourmaline. Ex. Saller Collection. The piece was mined some 20-30 years ago.
A dramatic, beautiful, unusual and pristine specimen of purple lepidolite and pearly-white cleavelandite attached to the termination of a gemmy green at the base and grading into very dark green tourmaline at the termination from the famous Golconda Mine of Brazil. 8.3 x 4.5 x 2.6 cm
An old Massachusetts classic: large, euhedral crystals of adularia to 4 cm across, coated with grey-green chlorite. You don’t see much of this old Massachusetts stuff on the market at all. 11 x 9 x 5 cm
7.2 x 7.2 x 4.4 cm. A fine and gemmy, 3.5 cm, peach-colored morganite elegantly set in pearlescent, bladed cleavelandite from recent finds in Afghanistan. The morganite has textbook crystal form. One photo shows two tiny sprays of needle aquamarine crystals near the morganite. Ex. Wayne Thompson.
9.7 x 5.3 x 3.8 cm. A 1.8 x 1.5 cm, lightly frosted, color-zoned purple fluorite cube is the highlight of this fine specimen from the Summer, 2008 find in the Monster Pocket at the Dreamtime Mine of Teller County, Colorado. Smaller fluorite cubes and a few, smoky quartz points are nicely scattered on the nubby, knob of off-white albite crystals.
A big, fat, fine apatite crystal, well-terminated, with glassy luster and wonderful pink color, measuring 2.4 cm in both width and height. Accented by albite and some smaller crystals below. Pink apatites are considered one of the best minerals of the Pakistani pegmatites , and are much more rare than the gem crystals themselves. 4.5 x 4 x 2.8 cm
