5.3 x 3.6 x 2.8 cm. Jet-black, lustrous aegirine crystals perched dramatically against a plate of albite matrix, covered by a sparkling microscopic druse of albite or perhaps quartz. Ex. Charlie Key.

5.0 x 4.7 x 4.3 cm. A fine and rich specimen of gemmy and lustrous, cranberry-red liddicoatite crystals on a bit of bladed cleavelandite from the Anjanabonoina Pegmatite of Madagascar. The pristine, 3.0 cm crystal is striking. This is a very highly representative and rich specimen for the species and very well-known locale.

Elbaite, Albite, Quartz from Stak Nala, Haramosh Mts., Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-216618a.jpg]

6.6 x 5.1 x 4.3 cm. This is from an absolutely wonderful pocket of deep pink/green bi-colors found in the late 1980s, and very classic for the style in form and overall aesthetics. The tourmaline is 6.3 x 2.3 x 2 cm in size and has intense color to each end. Often, only one or the other end is deeply colored, and one pale. Here, the pink is almost red in hue, and the green is very saturated. I love the different tourmaline terminations you see on these - so dramatic, split apart by the veil of white in the middle. This is a floater, complete all around, with sheaves of cleavelandite matrix and a 4cm doubly-terminated quartz attached. The tourmaline itself is unusually translucent, as most are darker, and shows its colors with only minimal backlighting.

3.5 x 2.4 x 2.1 cm. A fine and uncommon Brazilian miniature of a 2.0 cm, gemmy and lustrous, purplish-blue, apatite crystal angled on the front of a sculptural cluster of lustrous, snow-white albite crystals. This excellent combination piece is from Nova Lima. Apatites of this color and quality from Nova Lima are rare and highly desirable. Ex. Michel Jactat Collection.

Quartz (Var: Smoky Quartz), Schorl, Microcline, Albite from Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-217408a.jpg]

7.5 x 7.0 x 4.5 cm. A stunning, incredibly aesthetic combination specimen from Pakistan. A glassy, transparent, 4.0 cm smoky quartz crystal is centrally placed and beautifully set in front of a blocky, lustrous, pearlescent, 3.7 cm microcline crystal. The snow-white albite crystal matrix is fantastically studded with a plethora of lustrous, jet-black schorl crystals. Smoky quartz, in this combination, is uncommon from the Shigar Valley. Ex. Wayne Thompson.

Microcline, Albite (Var: Cleavelandite) from Florissant (Topaz Butte), Crystal Peak area, Teller Co., Colorado, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-217532a.jpg]

6.5 x 5.5 x 2.4 cm. Good white microcline specimens are actually more uncommon than the more familiar blue microcline (amazonite) specimens from the Crystal Peak area. Here, you have a cluster of microcline crystal terminations peeking out from under a blanket of cleavelandite. Ex. Jaime Bird Collection.

8.5 x 2.5 x 1.4 cm. A disruption during growth caused this sizeable crystal of green tourmaline crystal to make a noticeable bend in its center and grow at an oblique angle to it final termination. It is beautifully decorated with lavender lepidolites and platy albites. Actually has a pink core, which can be seen under strong light.

Beryl (Var: Goshenite), Elbaite, Albite from Resplendor, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-21997a.jpg]

Water-clear, colorless and lustrous “poker-chip” goshenite crystals with inclusions of dark-green tourmaline crystals and a bit of albite. From a single find in the late 1980’s, this is really classic and unique material that is now seldom seen on the market after all those years. This would be considered a very good example for the size! 6.4 x 5.7 x 3.2 cm

Microcline, Albite, Pyrochlore from Papachacra, Belen Department, Catamarca, Argentina [db_pics/mdpics/MD-221139a.jpg]

6.0 x 4.5 x 4.0 cm. An aesthetic combination specimen from recent finds at Papachacra, Argentina. Sharp, off-white microcline crystals to 2.0 cm are scattered on the mounded matrix. The largest crystal is at the top. Pastel-blue albite crystals are richly sprinkled and epitactically grown on the microcline crystals. The real bonus on this piece, though, is the field of tiny, gemmy, octahedral pyrochlore crystals beautifully set on the lower left of the specimen (as identified for me by an Argentine native expert who has field collected here).

5.7 x 4.2 x 2.5 cm. A fine combination specimen from recent finds at Papachacra, Argentina. Four pristine, gemmy and lustrous smoky quartz crystals to 2.6 cm project upward from a sloping field of sharp, off-white microcline crystals. Pastel-blue albite crystals are richly sprinkled and epitactically grown on the microcline crystals.

3.1 x 2.5 x 2.4 cm. Stokesite is a very rare calcium, tin silicate. A gorgeous little 1.0 cm radial spray of glassy stokesite crystals is beautifully perched atop a cluster of pearlescent, parallel-growth cleavelandite blades. This excellent specimen is from the Corrego do Urucum pegmatite of Brazil and is a very uncommon, gemmy spray of the species. Most Urucum stokesites are spherical, radial aggregates. Older material, from Carlos Barbosa, back in the late 1990s.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine), Albite from Haramosh Mts., Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-221312a.jpg]

18.3 x 12 x 12 cm. This stunning, unrepaired aquamarine specimen is one of the finest in its size class and style. It has a unique 3-dimensionality to it. The piece is dramatic, for the way the starkly contrasting crystallized albite matrix serves as host to a literal spray of crystals. Each crystal has a slightly different modification on the termination, so all are distinct, in a small way, in style. All are very blue and gemmy, with internal phantoms of medium opacity running up halfway through the 3 larger crystals. This is a characteristic of a pocket found in late 2005 and brought to market in 2006. Ex. Marc Weill Collection. This piece is illustrated in the Mineralogical Record supplement issue, Jan-Feb 2008.

Very nice cluster of tabular Oligoclase crystals from the famous find of early in the 1990s. The best-formed and most prominent of the crystals displays the beautiful opalescent play of light that these crystals are so famous for. 4.5 x 3.4 x 3 cm

Topaz, Schorl, Albite (Var: Cleavelandite) from Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-223890a.jpg]

10.5 x 7.0 x 6.4 cm. A huge, cabinet-sized, complexly crystallized, very gemmy, cognac-colored topaz crystal beautifully accented with a 3.7 cm schorl and bladed cleavelandite from recent finds in the Shigar Valley of Pakistan. There is a 3.0 cm conchoidal fracture on one side, but this is very hard to see in the photo, and frankly not immediately obvious in person either from a distance, due to the super gemminess. The ding is on the same side as the schorl termination and there is bruising to the cleavelandite around the schorl. Weighs 586 grams or nearly 1.3 pounds.
