From the surprising January 2008 find here, this is a symmetric, complete, undamaged crystal showing rich inclusions of the rare species ajoite. Interestingly, the quartz crystal has a "girdle" of sorts of included material which darkens the stalk and thus draws the eye all the more to the beautiful blue atop. NOTE THIS IS NOT POLISHED, as so many tragically were. Also, while many were found, few of this size with both good color and with perfect terminations were able to be recovered.
A gorgeous single crystal with intense color, due to inclusions of blue Ajoite within. Execllent representative example for the size and price.

The Messina Mine is home to these unique, and beautiful, Quartz crystals included by the rare copper silicate, Ajoite. The first generation of Quartz is richly coated by the Ajoite, and the second generation Quartz then preserves it as a wonderful turquoise-blue phantom within. And , these are doubly-terninated, no less. Rarely will you find one of these combination pieces in such good, aesthetic, quality;AND in a thumbnail size!
3.2 x 2.8 x 2.3 cm. Ajoite is a VERY RARE copper-related silicate. This is a KILLER, UNPOLISHED, natural quartz crystal that displays RICH zones of concentrated, turquoise-blue ajoite inclusions that you can ask for, and is about the most ajoite I have ever seen in one crystal. Truly an exceptional miniature by ANY standard for the collector of all things quartz, copper or South African. This super piece is from a RECENT, very small find from the famous Messina Mine of South Africa, source of the VERY BEST ajoite-included quartz crystals. The trivial bit of termination edge wear and a contacted face on the back of the termination are noted, but certainly not a visual detraction to this gorgeous and unique specimen.
4.0 x 2.9 x 2.7 cm. The ajoite phantoms are FABULOUS! The termination is pristine and a bit of contacting on the back on one corner is noted, but is certainly are not a visual detraction to this gorgeous and unique specimen. Essentially complete all-around.
6.9 x 6.8 x 3.5 cm. Ajoite is a rare copper-based mineral that appears in specimens almost exclusively as inclusions inside quartz crystals. Most often, as here, the crystals are polished to give a better view of the ajoite, as the crystals are generally milky. This one is very richly included with ajoite, so it displays a pretty blue-green color.
12.0 x 7.8 x 6.2 cm.
5.2 x 4.8 x 2.2 cm. Ajoite is a rare mineral that is almost always seen as bright, blue-green inclusions in quartz crystals. You can see several occurrences of these inclusions in these two intergrown quartz crystals from Africa. Old material from the Richard Hauck collection.
1.7 x 1.4 x 1.2 cm. Ajoite is a very rare copper-containing silicate. This is a fine, unpolished thumbnail natural quartz crystal that displays a rich a zone of concentrated, turquoise-blue ajoite inclusions. This fine piece is from the famous, small, 1985 find from the Messina Mine of South Africa, source of the very best ajoite-included quartz crystals. The ajoite phantom is beautiful and there are many clay inclusion flecks. The termination is complete-all-around and pristine and the sidecar crystal is a nice accent. Ex. Rob Smith Collection.
3.5 x 3.0 x 2.8 cm. A superb, very rich combination specimen of the very rare copper-containing silicates papagoite and ajoite from the Type Locality for both species - the New Cornelia Mine (Ajo Mine), Arizona. All sides of the 3-dimensional matrix are richly covered with lustrous, royal-blue papagoite microcrystals. One side of this excellent piece is richly covered with aquamarine ajoite microcrystals next to the papagoite. It is very rare to see such richness of both species together in one specimen. Ex. Jaime Bird Collection and comes with a two-sided, handwritten label in French, that says that the piece was purchased in Tucson in 1959 from Ann Rudledge. Ajoite was discovered in 1958 and papgoite was discovered in 1960. A true old-time specimen of these very rare species.
20.8 x 18.7 x 15.4 cm. Ajoite is a very rare copper-containing silicate. Pretty, powder-blue ajoite includes many of the quartz crystals on this striking, very sculptural large cabinet specimen that is studded with porcupine-like quartz needles. This fine piece is from a recent, sudden find from the Messina Mine of South Africa after many years of drought, source of the very best ajoite-included quartz crystals.
2.4 x 2.4 x 2.0 cm. Ajoite is a very rare potassium, sodium, copper silicate, named after its discovery locality, the New Cornelia Mine, Ajo, Arizona. Pretty, lustrous, bluish-green, acicular, ajoite crystals richly cover the excellent thumbnail. Older material from the Carlton Davis Collection.
6.9 x 3.7 x 3 cm. The Messina mine is home to a unique and beautiful occurrence of these bright blue ajoite-in-quartz specimens. Seldom do you see a specimen so richly included, with such intensity, as this one. The core zone of color, approximately 2.5 x 2 cm of the front face, has an incredibly rich saturation of the minute ajoite inclusions (a mineral very rare from other localities and seldom concentrated). The crystal is complete-all-around and has moderate inclusions in its upper half, though the front display is most impressive. It has a fine termination, excepting only a rough indentation , a natural contact where it grew against something, at a plateau above the colored zone leading into the peak of the termination. Direct from recent mining here, this is a superb and colorful example.
8.0 x 7.5 x 6.5 cm. A pleasing, powder-blue, 4 mm ajoite ball with a stunning halo of ajoite is strikingly included in the face of a glassy, 5.3 cm, quartz crystal attached to a sculptural crust. The ajoite halo is surreal and the double refraction at the quartz crystal edge is really interesting. This aesthetic piece is from a new find at the Messina Mine of South Africa. This is an impressive, highly representative example of the very rare sodium, potassium, copper silicate, named after its discovery locality, the New Cornelia Mine, Ajo, Arizona.
6.3 x 2.8 x 2.5 cm. A striking edge phantom of pleasing, powder-blue ajoite is dramatically included in the termination of a sharp, water-clear quartz crystal from a new find at the Messina Mine of South Africa. Three sides of the crystal are preferentially coated with iron oxides making for a very showy piece. The glassy crystal faces are very lightly frosted. This is an impressive, highly representative example of the very rare copper silicate, named after its discovery locality, the New Cornelia Mine, Ajo, Arizona.
