Lustrous slender crystal with one well-developed termination and one fibrous termination. The numerous feldpars (up to .4 cm) perched attractively against the dark shiny surfaces make this a delicate and aesthetic piece.

A highly important old specimen featuring a 5.3-cm-long crystal of jet-black aegerine in matrix, from Arkansas. The crystal is razor sharp and has high lustre. It is, to me, shocking that this could come from Arkansas! I had only ever seen tiny worthless specimens of aegerine before, and compared to them this piece is the king of aegerines here. It carries a label from the Houston Museum, where it was accessioned in 1985 as part of the multimillion dollar donation by oilman Perkin Sams. It was deaccessioned in 1996 and hidden away in a collection until now. I regard this as a MAJOR United States specimen for this rare species

E7 - Epididymite on Aegirine - $ 175
Mt. St. Hilaire, Quebec, Canada
thumbnail, 1.5 x 1 x 1 cm

Sorry, we have no images of this specimen at present.

An unusually gemmy, doubly-terminated crystal perched on a sharp Aegirine mount. VERY translucent and lustrous in person!

A unique example of aegerine made so dramatic by the presence of this sharp, floater shard of quartz! It IS a floater, terminated all around. The aegerine itself is superb on its own merit, too!

A strikingly aesthetic 3-dimensional combination of jet-black aegerines (to 3 cm) splaying out from matrix of feldspar! The lustre, form, and sharpness of these crystals is WAY above par and most people consider this locale to be the world's finest source for the species...while this piece would be, in quality, right at the top of what has been found to date. 6.0 x 5.4 x 4.7 cm

Eudialyte, Titanite, Aegirine - Kola Peninsula, Murmanskaja Oblast', Northern Region, Russia

15.7 x 8.1 x 5.9 cm. A very large and super-rich specimen of eudialyte from Russia. This is a relatively rare silicate, with a rich red color that forms large crystals, here still embedded in a matrix which also contains radial stars of sphene (titanite) and the rarity acmite (black xls) It is sawn flat on the back and bottom from matrix removal. This specimen came out of the collection of Roman Gaufman.

7.6 x 6.1 x 5.0 cm. A fine 3-cm crystal of aegerine sticks up amongst smokies of Swiss quality, on a bed of euhedral feldspar crystals! The smokies and aegerine are all terminated and in pristine condition.

Eudialyte, Aegirine - Kangerdluarssuq (Kangerdluarssuk; Kangerdluarsuk) Firth, Ilimaussaq complex, Narsaq, Kitaa (West Greenland) Province, Greenland

6.1 x 5.3 x 4.3 cm. A rich and showy specimen of sharp and lustrous, chocolate-colored eudialyte crystals to 1.4 cm associated with black aegirine as a nice accent, from very close to the Type Locality in Greenland. There is contacting, but this is a highly representative specimen of the two species and locality. Originally labeled as zircon altering to eudialyte, this is unlikely. I've been told that there are "numerous references in papers of mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry of Zircon replacing Eudialyte, but not the other way around. There is known one report of Eudialyte formed hydrothermally with indications of Zr being mobilized from preformed Zircon (in the Pilanesberg complex of South Africa eudialyte is interpreted to be hydrothermal formed from an orthomagmatic Na-Nb-REE-Cl-F-solution that exsolved from an agpaitic syenitic magma. In this system the Zr was probably remobilized from an originally formed magmatic zircon. But under such conditions any direct replacement in the form of pseudomorphs would be very unlikely from the petrological description.) This is not the case here. Ex. George Ellng Collection.

6.2 x 2.3 x 2 cm. A superb and aesthetic specimen of highly lustrous well-formed blades of aegirine combined with beautiful euhedral crystals of Feldspar (up to 1.5 cm). Each by themselves would make a fine specimen, but this is a killer combination piece for any locality. Ex. Charlie Key stock.

6.1 x 2.1 x 2.0 cm. A SUPERB, complete all-around and pristine cluster of lustrous, skyscraper-like, black aegerine crystals beautifully accented and contrasted by sharp, off-white albite crystals at the base. This very aesthetic piece is from recent finds at Mt. Malosa, Malawi.

Catapleiite, Analcime, Aegirine - Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

3.3 x 2.6 x 1.5 cm. A classic and excellent combination specimen from the famous Mt.St-Hilaire of Quebec, with an unusually robust crystal! This is an old-timer. This is a well-terminated, very glassy, tabular, tan catapleiite crystal is nicely accented by sharp, porcelaneous, 3 mm analcime crystal on one edge and by aegirine crystals included within the catapleiite. A showy and desirable combo piece from this famous locality.

10.5 x 7.7 x 6.0 cm. A cool looking CABINET-SIZED Mt. St-Hilaire combination specimen which includes two RARE species, leucophanite and polylithionite. The bulk of the piece is this amazing looking, etched and bladed, salmon-pink serandite. The central, vertical-bladed serandite knob is striking atop the horizontal-bladed serandite. On either side of the knob lie vuggy areas which include lustrous, pastel-yellow leucophanite crystals, lustrous, pearlescent to glassy, polylithionite plates and black aegirine crystals. All in all, a very showy and unusual combination specimen from this very famous locality, of large size.

5.5 x 2.2 x 1.8 cm. A GEM, doubly terminated, smoky quartz crystal beautifully attached to the side of a PRISTINE, 4-sided, highly lustrous, jet-black aegirine crystal and nicely complimented by smaller aegirines from recent finds at Mt. Malosa, Malawi. A couple of the sidecar aegirines have broken ends, but certainly not detracting to this very aesthetic specimen.

2.8 x 2.2 x 1.4 cm. From the John Ydren collection, this is an outstanding example of a rare locality specimen of catapleiite from the unusual Greenland mineral deposits. The specimen is a single vertical crystal crossed by aegirines, and fully terminated atop. We are all familiar with large crystals of this size from Canada, but from Greenland this is much less common and it’s an attractive piece, as well.
