11.0 x 5.8 x 1.8 cm. A superb, incredibly aesthetic example from this most treasured of old European classic Silver locales. This piece has a beautiful dark patina caused by a micro layer of acanthite coating, and an exquisite complexity to the rope as it twists and turns like a living thing. The piece is VERY sturdy despite its elegant look, and this is a solid piece that is not flexible or "bendy" like some German silvers of this size. Ex. Dr. Eugene Meieran, Evan Jones Collections.
2.3 x 1.5 x 1.0 cm. A REALLY NIFTY and AESTHETIC acanthite crystal cluster from a recent small find at the famous Rayas Mine at Guanajuato, Mexico. Splendent, cubic, dark gray acanthite crystals are beautifully stacked and branching, platform- or bench-like. Many of the crystals are hoppered or skeletal, included the two major acanthites. Just a nifty, three-sided thumbnail. SUPERB, highest quality competition level thumbnail.
3.5 x 2.7 x 2.1 cm. Mineral specimens from the famous Comstock Lode at Virginia City, Nevada are RARE today, even in museums. The remoteness of the locality and lack of "showy" specimens precluded high-graders, other than for rich ore. The bonanza silver ores were depleted by 1878. This OLD-TIME, VERY RICH silver ore consists of bright, wire to hackly silver crystals in a matrix that is nearly SOLID bromian chlorargyrite! A free-standing, 4 mm, gemmy, yellow-green chlorargyrite crystal jumps out on the back of the piece. There are even dark blebs of acanthite scattered about. According to the label, this CLASSIC and RARE specimen was mined in 1885 (according to a more modern label with it) and comes from the Carl Stentz Collection of Laguna Hills, California.
3.5 x 2.8 x 2.0 cm. Isolated, super-sharp and lustrous acanthite cubes to 7 mm are jauntily perched on three-dimensional, contrasting calcite matrix on this showy and excellent specimen from the very rich and famous silver mines at Fresnillo, Mexico. Ex. Dave Stoudt Collection.
5.7 x 5.5 x 3.2 cm. Sparkly, sharp, olive-green acanthite pseudomorphs after pyrargyrite crystals in vuggy, jackstraw fashion form a very rich and excellent specimen from the famous mines at Guanajuato, Mexico. Ex. Dave Stoudt Collection. Many of the pseudos have hoppered terminations and the crystals reach 2.1 cm.
7.6 x 6.1 x 5.1 cm. A true classic from South America's most important ancient economic silver mine. The matrix of this rather hefty specimen is heavily included by patches of very visible silver wires that exhibit a wonderful, metallic-iridescent, patina. Sharp cubic crystals of acanthite to 1 cm on top are present, on massive acanthite ore. The mines at Colquechaca have been in operation for hundreds of years. Ex. Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences and William Vaux Collections.
3.5 x 2.2 x 0.8 cm. A gorgeous, highly aesthetic silver wire loop covered with acanthite from Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan. The loop beautifully rests on coiled silver wires.
6.3 x 4.8 x 4 cm. The upper portion of the specimen is a 4.2 cm open Calcite pocket interlaced with beautiful thick Silver ropes. These wires are several mm thick, up to 2 cm long as they curve, and have a gorgeous patina. For accent, there are even gemmy Calcites growing on the wires. Ex. Chicago Field Museum and Dan Ehrling collections.
11.2 x 6.1 x 5 cm. This specimen features a very fine, attractive complex 2.3 cm acanthite crystal nestled in a wide Calcite pocket, with associated sulfides and smaller acanthites.
2.8 x 1.6 x 1.2 cm. The piece is comprised of silvery pseudo-cubic acanthite crystals in an almost arborescent form. From Level 580 of the mine.
3.2 x 2.1 x 1.2 cm. A remarkable and classic Acanthite featuring sharp, lustrous, somewhat skeletal metallic silvery colored pseudo-cubic crystals in a gorgeous arborescent formation.
4.5 x 3.6 x 2.3 cm. Sparkly, sharp, olive-green acanthite pseudomorphs after pyrargyrite crystals in vuggy, jackstraw fashion form a very rich and fine specimen from the famous mines at Guanajuato, Mexico. Many of the pseudos have hoppered terminations and the crystals reach 2.1 cm. Ex. Dave Stoudt Collection.
12.8 x 6.7 x 3.3 cm. A fine, sculptural specimen with beautiful and thick nests of brightly burnished, curled and curved silver wires set on a cabinet matrix of solid, crudely crystallized acanthite from a recent find at the Imiter Mine of Morocco.
2.4 x 1.1 x 1.1 cm. A classic acanthite specimen from the Rayas Mine at Guanajuato, Mexico. This specimen is a fine piece with a sculptural, curved stack of mirror-bright, modified cubes.
8.0 x 6.0 x 4.6 cm. A classic, old-time combination German specimen from the famous Clausthal area of the Harz Mountains. The very sculptural, 3-dimensional, mountain peak-like matrix of glassy, colorless quartz crystals is very richly covered with melted-look acanthite crystals. This specimen dates to the 1800s and comes from an old European collection, where everything dates to the 1800s.
