4.0 x 1.6 x 1.4 cm. A sculptural, thick and bright, twisted silver wire from the famed Uchucchacua Mine of Peru. The wire looks serpent-like. Very few new silvers have come from this mine in the last 3-5 years, as the primary silver wire producing zone has been mined out.
7.0 x 5.5 x 3.1 cm. A fine, sculptural specimen with beautiful and thick nests of brightly burnished, curled and curved silver wires set on a knobby matrix of solid, crudely crystallized acanthite from the Imiter Mine of Morocco.
1.9 x 1.1 x 0.7 cm. Rare in sharp crystals, this is, as you can see, a superb thumber of the silver-sulfide acanthite. The main crystal is just so sharp and finely-formed, and it sits atop a cluster of smaller crystals.
8.6 x 5.0 x 4.0 cm. A VERY RICH and showy silver ore specimen from Guanajuato, Mexico. Moderately crystallized acanthite is liberally covered with nicely contrasting calcite rosettes, pastel-pink dolomite and tiny, sparkly chalcopyrite crystals. All in all, an excellent combination piece from the La Sirena Mine, which is adjacent to and on the same vein as the very famous Rayas Mine. Very little damage, overall. Ex. George Elling Collection.
2.1 x 1.8 x 1.7 cm. A HUGE, lustrous, battleship-gray acanthite cube from the very famous Rayas Mine at Guanajuato, Mexico. This is an uncommonly large, very sharp and fine acanthite crystal from Guanajuato or any locality. A classic specimen for the species. And, a really impressive large single crystal as well.
2.5 x 1.2 x 0.6 cm. These specimens came out of Porco about 3 years ago (about 2005), and they were very limited in quantity. They came in a parcel thumbnail specimens. They were the first contemporary Acanthites that I had seen from Porco in my life. Ex. Brian Kosnar Collection.
9.3 x 5.1 x 4.2 cm. A GORGEOUS and thick nest of brightly burnished silver wires to 2.7 cm very aesthetically set in a 3-dimensional vuggy matrix of solid acanthite from a recent find at the Imiter Mine of Morocco. The silver wires are a marvel to behold and this super piece definitely has two displayable views.
3.0 x 2.2 x 1.3 cm. A sculptural specimen of two, joined strings of lustrous acanthite crystals resting on a thin crust of matrix from an old classic find at the famous Rayas Mine at Guanajuato, Mexico. This cute piece has a biomorphic look. It looks with a dog with an uplifted head.
2.2 x 1.9 x 1.0 cm. A drop-dead gorgeous and aesthetic Fresnillo acanthite thumbnail. A super-sharp, lustrous, 1.1 cm, rounded acanthite crystal sits atop branching stalks of acanthite and is nicely accented by a bit of quartz. This showy piece has a very anthropmorphic look. The large crystal looks like a head.
6.5 x 5.5 x 1.7 cm. A historic, old-time acanthite specimen from Joachimstal, Erzgebirge, Czech Republic. A solid, 3-dimensional, algae-like matte of greenish-gray acanthite coats matrix. Most of the acanthite is massive, but some areas have subhedral crystals. A few areas have sharply euhedral crystals, which define the species. Classic, VERY RICH, old-time silver ore from a historic locality. Ex. George Elling Collection.
4.3 x 4.3 x 2.7 cm. An old-time, very rich silver ore specimen UNUSUAL and UNCOMMON associations from the very famous Chanarcillo mines of Chile. The 3-dimensional specimen is nearly solid silver with a scattering of black acanthite. One end is RICHLY covered by white tufts of pharmacolite, an UNCOMMON hydrated arsenate. Ex. Carl Davis Collection.
3.2 x 2.7 x 1.7 cm. A fine, lustrous silvery-grey, metallic, rounded dodecahedron of Acanthite on Calcite matrix. This specimen is from a find from about 3 years ago. A nice large thumbnail for the locality. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.
11.8 x 9.0 x 2.7 cm. GORGEOUS and thick nests of brightly burnished, curled and curved silver wires very aesthetically set on a CABINET matrix plate of solid acanthite from a recent find at the Imiter Mine of Morocco. The silver wires in the dispersed nests are a marvel to behold.
2.6 x 1.6 x 0.6 cm. A REALLY CUTE and AESTHETIC acanthite thumbnail from a recent small find at the famous Rayas Mine at Guanajuato, Mexico. Highly lustrous, cubic and elongated, dark gray acanthite crystals are beautifully stacked and branching, tree-like. Many of the crystals are hoppered or skeletal, included the crowning large acanthite. Just a nifty, two-sided thumbnail. SUPERB, highest quality competition level thumbnail.
3.5 x 2.2 x 0.8 cm. A gorgeous, floral-like cluster of curled and curved silver wires from the famous Sarbai Mine of Kazakhstan. This aesthetic, two-sided specimen has multiple "caps" of cubic, black acanthite crystals and a beautiful patina, which add pizzazz. Kazakhstan silvers compare very favorably with Kongsberg and German wire silvers, but at CONSIDERABLY less cost.
