A small batch of these trickled to market at the end of 2009, and I have yet to see more. These specimens consist of unusual ball-shaped aggregates of quartz, in a beautiful and sparkling lavender to purple color range.
PURPLQTZ-01 - Quartz (unusual Lavendar Balls) - $ 900 N'Chwaning Mines, Kalahari Manganese Field, South Africa small cabinet, 5.6 x 5.1 x 3.5 cm
A beautiful , rolling, 3-dimensional specimen featuring botryoidal quartz balls to 2 cm. It is complete all around as shown, nearly a floater except for a small contact on the bottom only. The crystal balls are translucent, sparkling and lustrous, and a rich shade of lavender-purple color presumably due to manganese. More sparkly, in person!
PURPLQTZ-02 - Quartz (unusual Lavendar Balls) - $ 600 N'Chwaning Mines, Kalahari Manganese Field, South Africa miniature, 3.6 x 2.9 x 2.7 cm
One of our favorites! This choice miniature is really sculptural, and has a 2.5-cm cluster atop. It is complete all around. The crystal balls are translucent, sparkling and lustrous, and a rich shade of lavender-purple color presumably due to manganese. More sparkly, in person!
PURPLQTZ-03 - Quartz (unusual Lavendar Balls) - $ 2000 N'Chwaning Mines, Kalahari Manganese Field, South Africa cabinet, 13.5 x 10.8 x 6.9 cm
This is the largest fine specimen we obtained, and it looks like some crazy mushroomy forest of weird growth, perched atop calcite and manganese-rich gangue matrix. It is a very aesthetic, sparkling , 3-dimensional specimen that the photos simply cannot do justice to. It is complete all around. The crystal balls are translucent, sparkling and lustrous, and a rich shade of lavender-purple color presumably due to manganese. More sparkly, in person!

A beautiful , rolling, 3-dimensional specimen featuring botryoidal quartz balls to 1.3 cm. It is complete all around as shown, nearly a floater except for a small contact on the back only. A choice thumbnail specimen featuring a botryoidal quartz ball, complete all around. The crystal balls here are translucent, sparkling and lustrous; and a rich shade of lavender-purple color, presumably due to manganese. More sparkly, in person!
PURPLQTZ-09 - Quartz (unusual Lavendar Balls) - $ 2000 SOLD N'Chwaning Mines, Kalahari Manganese Field, South Africa cabinet, 10.2 x 8 x 5 cm
This is a large, incredibly sparkling cluster of solid quartz balls, all with this rich hue of lavender-purple (the strongest color of all pieces here, in person). Totally different from any other quartz you have seen! It is really just plain gorgeous, for color and complex 3-dimensional, almost biological appearance. This solid cluster is translucent at all edges, and is complete all around except only a small attachment on back. Very bizarre creature, and a neat addition to any collection because the color and style is simply "different"
PURPLQTZ-10 - Quartz (unusual Lavendar Balls) - $ 500 SOLD N'Chwaning Mines, Kalahari Manganese Field, South Africa small cabinet, 9 x 6.3 x 6 cm
A beautiful , 3-dimensional specimen featuring botryoidal quartz balls to 2 cm , perched in calcite on manganese gangue matrix. It is complete 360-degrees all around as shown. The crystal balls are translucent, sparkling and lustrous, and a pleasing light pastel shade of lavender color , presumably due to manganese. More sparkly, in person! The isolation shown by the crystal clusters on this piece seems to be unusual for the pocket, and I consider quite attractive.
