GEM17-22
Spessartine on Smoky Quartz
Tongbei, Fujian Province, China
Small Cabinet, 6.1 x 3.8 x 2.6 cm
SOLD

A lustrous and translucent, sharply crystallized, super-darkly colored smoky quartz crystal, measuring 6.1 cm in length, is festooned with glassy and gemmy, bright orange-colored spessartine crystals, to 5 mm across. It looks like candy gumdrops stuck to a black quartz. This piece is from a special pocket that came out long ago and was mined probably around 2005. I got it in around 2012 directly from the private collection of the miner, Chen Wei Gang, in Xiamen City (he had kept a number of fine pieces from this find!) For the size range, and aesthetics, it is frankly stunning (in my opinion, although I am admittedly biased).
