Metatorbernite (Chalcolite)
South Wheal Basset, Illogan, Cornwall, England, UK
Small Cabinet, 8.0 x 7.0 x 2.1 cm
Ex. Simon Lawrence; Nick Carruth
SOLD

Tetragonal, lustrous, neon green crystals of metatorbernite to 5 mm across, are emplaced in a shallow vug. Ex. Nick Carruth collection along with his label. Note the interesting old label: "Chalcolite from South Huel Basset," where this was the old name for torbernite, and "Huel" was a 1700s-era Cornish-language version of "Wheal," which means "Mine" in English. An extremely rare locality piece, as most such specimens are from Gunnislake, and of different habit entirely! We have only seen this one specimen of such size and richness. Ex. Nick Carruth and Simon Lawrence collections.
