Bustamite on Galena
Broken Hill, Yancowinna Co., New South Wales, Australia

A rare, aesthetic and balanced thumbnail of bustamite on matrix! This piece shows off a cluster of gemmy to translucent Bustamite crystals, perched on lustrous Galena, from the famous Broken Hill mine in Australia. The largest Bustamite is nearly 2 cm long, and it has one partial termination with some damage elsewhere. Bustamites rarely get as gemmy as these, and this enhances the light, cherry red color. The slightly silky luster gives it body, but admittedly conflicts with the gemminess. Overall, a very interesting combination thumbnail from a great locality.
