Barite with zoned edges
near Susville, La Mure, Isere, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France
Small Cabinet, 9.5 x 4.5 x 3.4 cm
SOLD

I had not seen a speicmen of this material in person before I purchased this piece recently, and it surprised me because at first glance it looks Chinese. However it is from a small occurrence near the town of Susville, seldom seen for sale; and is a more delicate and graceful style in person than similar-looking Chinese specimens. Apparently, the interesting edge effects are classic to this locality and, after looking at it again, it really does stand out as unique from other finds of baryte. Apparently there is an article on the find in Le Regne Mineral, issue #97.
