Scheelite
Cohen Mine, Cochise Co., Arizona, USA
Small Cabinet, 5.9 x 4.6 x 1.5 cm
SOLD

A rare example of oldtime Scheelite from Arizona! Today these are considered extremely important USA/Arizona classics, but I do not think there are more than a small handful of Arizona scheelites of such size out there, of ANY quality, to be had (they were found in the 1940s and 1950s at this remote locality and only turn up in old collections now). 135 grams. Comes with custom lucite base for display. As with many of these, the crystal looks a little bit melted or soft in form, but it is complete all around and just contacted in back (contact and perhaps etching rather than damage). Since it seems to be complete all around except at the bottom as displayed horizontally, the horizontal display seems best at first glance, but it actually looks very dramatic in a case, stood up vertically as well (it has more presence, gets more backlighting, and shows more color). It is translucent when backlit strongly, and glows a fiery orange (photo shows an unedited photo with one halogen backlight)!
