Azurite (circa 1800s)
Chessy-les-Mines, Rhone, Rhone-Alpes, France
Small Cabinet, 7.0 x 5.4 x 4.9 cm
Ex. Herb Obodda
SOLD
An excellent and showy, old-time Chessy specimen of highly lustrous Azurite crystals from the historic locality of Chessy. These bladed to tabular to blocky crystals, up to around 1 cm, are classic habits for Chessy. Rosettes or balls usually are more common, so these more sharply crystalline variations of habit at this locality are highly desirable. The ancient Chessy mines were closed by the end of the 19th century, so good specimens in this size and condition are actually very difficult to obtain. ex. A.K. Borland collection, to Obodda.
