The second wave of Afghanites from Sar-e Sang, of which this is one, finally brought to fruition the promise of high quality specimens from earlier finds near the surface of more pale and weathered specimens in the early 2000's. This pair of razor sharp crystals has all you could want: intense blue color, excellent form, very good luster, and the doubly-terminated Afghanite is 2.2 cm long. The two crystals sit beautifully on the marble matrix, and both the Afghanites and the Calcite in the marble are fluorescent. Excellent aesthetics! As well, it is not full of glue and food coloring, as are some larger crystals and earlier finds. Ex Obodda's private Afghani minerals collection, assembled over all his travels to the region.
