Fluorite on Calcite with Pyrite
Danville, Kentucky, USA
Small Cabinet, 8.2 x 7.8 x 4.2 cm
SOLD
An unusual locality specimen with a deep purple fluorite phantom (an inch across), on calcite; parallel growth, doubly-terminated white calcite crystals to 6 cm in length are the host for a single, lustrous and translucent, color-zoned fluorite crystal measuring 2.6 cm across. Most of the fluorite crystal is a rich purple with a lighter zone near the terminations. Ex. Trimingham collection. The assemblage is just a little off for Illinois fluorite district material, and when you see these in person they are recognizably distinct.
