Covellite with Pyrite
Calabona mine, Alghero, Sassari Province, Sardinia, Italy
Small Cabinet, 5.8 x 5.5 x 2.6 cm
SOLD

A rare old locality piece! This is a display specimen with fabulous and immense, thick, well-formed crystals of covellite from one of the consummate covellite localities in the world. These are not your typical, delicate blades of covellite! These stout plates are up to 4.5cm across and 4mm thick and arranged in a slightly divergent fan, adorned with small clusters of brassy yellow pyrite. Edges of a few crystals that have trivial dings reveal the typical indigo blue color of the species. This is a noteworthy European piece the likes of which are rarely seen for sale today. From an old European collection.
