Phosgenite
Monte Poni, Sardinia, Italy
Miniature, 4.6 x 3.8 x 3.7 cm
Ex. Washington Roebling
SOLD

This specimen is both a display quality miniature and a provenanced specimen of historic interest. Emplaced high on a matrix of lead ore and galena is a single, textbook crystal 2 cm in length, of lustrous and translucent phosgenite. This is a historic old specimen accompanied by an original and quite rare Washington Roebling label (in his handwriting!) as well as the matching one from the Smithsonian with a R2626 designation. Since Roebling's collection went to the Smithsonian in the mid 1920's, this specimen probably predates WW1.
