Sodalite var. Hackmanite (twinned)
Kokcha Valley, Sar-e-Sang, Badakshan Province, Afghanistan
Small Cabinet, 7.2 x 7.0 x 5.6 cm
SOLD

Perched aesthetically atop a white marble matrix is a well formed twin crystal, measuring 3.8 cm across, of sodalite (the rare purple variety termed hackmanite). The crystal is lustrous and translucent with an eye-pleasing light purplish color. It exhibits a superb salmon pink color under fluorescent light! This is a relatively large, and unusually twinned crystal that is nicely displayed on a balanced matrix - all in all, a rare combination. From an older piece out of the Obodda Collection material that I had trimmed and prepared down to size recently.
