Bastnasite-(Ce) (rough and cut set)
Trimouns Talc Mine, Luzenac, Ariege, Midi-Pyrenees, France
Miniature, 3.5 x 2.3 x 2.1 cm (Crystal), 0.58 ct (Gem)
SOLD
3.5 x 2.3 x 2.1 cm (Specimen); 0.58 carats; 5.01 mm x 3.12 mm (Gem) - Bastnasite is rarely found in gem quality material, and before the large discovery in Pakistan several years ago, there were very few good crystals on the market, let alone gems. The specimen in this set hosts a 5 mm, rich orange color hexagonal crystal group on matrix, and the "Emerald" cut gem, despite from visible inclusions, still has wonderful color. Some of the most famous specimen of Bastnasite are those from Trimouns, and to have both a specimen and a cut stone from this mine is important for a rough and cut collector.
